This pen has been completely disassembled, thoroughly cleaned, properly restored, and reassembled. It is now in excellent writing condition and ready for use.

The nib, feed, and section were ultrasonically cleaned. The interior of the barrel and cap were hand cleaned, and the exterior surfaces have been carefully polished to bring back a rich, deep luster of the jet black celluloid. A new, properly sized rubber sac has been installed. The 18K gold-filled cap band, gold-filled Waterman clip, gold-filled lever box assembly, and the 14K Purple Keyhole nib have all been hand-polished.

The clip features the desirable knurled edging. The lever arm itself does not show knurling, which suggests it may have been replaced at some point or has worn smooth over time — mentioned here strictly for accuracy.

The Jet Black celluloid is a deep, even black and presents beautifully. There are no cracks, repairs, or damage to the celluloid. The barrel imprint is crisp and centered, reading: “WATERMAN’S REG. U.S. IDEAL GLOBE LOGO PAT. OFF. MADE IN U.S.A. FOUNTAIN PEN.” The butt end retains the correct “PURPLE” disc with the “7” imprint — a key feature collectors look for.

The cap and barrel threads are strong, and the cap secures tightly. There are no monograms or personalizations. The cap band and clip shine brightly after polishing. There is one small ding on the cap band (shown in image 8), noted for full transparency.

The lever box assembly has been cleaned and lightly oiled. The lever filling system has been water-tested and operates smoothly and properly, just as designed.

The highlight of this pen is the Waterman #7 Purple Keyhole nib. The 14K nib measures approximately .72mm at the tip using digital calipers. In actual writing, it produces a Fine to Medium line, measuring roughly .49mm to .61mm under normal to firm pressure. The writing sample shown in the listing was completed with this exact pen, dipped in Faber-Castell Cobalt Blue ink. The nib writes smoothly and confidently, offering a refined and controlled feel on paper.

This vintage Waterman #7 measures approximately 5 1/2" capped and 7" posted. Overall condition grades Very Fine to Very Fine+.

Later Waterman numbered models, particularly the #7 with correct colored disc and matching Keyhole nib, are becoming increasingly difficult to locate — especially in this level of condition. This Purple Keyhole example is a collector-grade piece and a wonderful opportunity to add a highly sought-after model to your writing arsenal collection.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1862/4123/files/1930sWatermanBlackCelluloid7PurpleFountainPen1.jpg?v=1772331381
https://antiquedigger.com/en-ca/products/c1930-waterman-7-black-celluloid-purle-keyhole-nib-fountain-pen-restored
