circa-1936-conklin-nozac-red-pearl-piston-filler-fountain-pen-restored
CIRCA 1936 CONKLIN NOZAC RED PEARL PISTON FILLER FOUNTAIN PEN RESTORED

For your consideration, we are pleased to offer for sale this Circa 1936 Conklin Nozac Fountain Pen in Striped Red Pearl celluloid, fitted with a 14K smooth writing nib. This is a beautifully restored example now writing and functioning as originally intended.

This pen has been fully disassembled, thoroughly cleaned, fitted with new rubber O-rings to replace the original deteriorated cork seal, carefully reassembled, and water-tested to ensure proper piston operation. The filling system now works smoothly and reliably. The piston knob is clearly marked “FILL” and “EMPTY,” just as it should be.

The nib, feed, and section were ultrasonically cleaned. The cap and barrel were hand cleaned inside and out, then carefully polished to restore the vibrancy of the Red Pearl celluloid while protecting the material. The gold-filled Conklin rocker clip, cap band, and 14K Conklin nib have all been hand polished. The cap band shows no wear. The clip displays minor wear at the very end and along the right edge near the “Conk” lettering in “Conklin,” mentioned strictly for accuracy. Overall presentation is strong and very attractive.

The Red Pearl celluloid is vibrant, with wonderful depth. Barrel transparency is water-clear, allowing easy viewing of ink levels. There are no cracks, chips, repairs, monograms, or personalizations. The barrel imprint reads: “THE CONKLIN PEN CO TOLEDO OHIO. U.S.A. REG. U.S. PAT. OFF.” This pen measures approximately 5 3/8" capped, 6 1/8" posted, and weighs .68 ounces — a comfortable and well-balanced size in hand.

While this example does not carry a “Nozac” barrel imprint, it is indeed a piston-filling Nozac model. During the 1930s and the Depression era, production inconsistencies were common at Conklin, and not all examples were uniformly marked. There are also no word gauge imprints, nor were there originally.

The 14K Conklin nib is a Medium, measuring approximately .86mm at the tip with digital calipers. In the provided writing sample (completed with this exact pen, dipped in Faber-Castell Cobalt Blue ink), the nib produces a Fine line around .48mm under light pressure and broadens to approximately .97mm under firm pressure. The nib writes very smoothly and offers pleasing line variation.

Red Pearl Nozacs in working condition are becoming increasingly difficult to acquire. Many examples suffer from compromised piston systems or degraded seals. This one has been properly serviced, functions as designed, and displays beautifully.

I would grade this example Very Fine+ to Excellent. Strong color, good imprint, transparent barrel, working piston filler, and a smooth writing 14K nib — everything collectors look for in a quality Nozac. A standout addition to any vintage Conklin collection or writing arsenal.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1862/4123/files/1936ConklinNozacPenlineRedPearlPistonFillerFountainPen1.jpg?v=1772404320
https://antiquedigger.com/en-ca/products/circa-1936-conklin-nozac-red-pearl-piston-filler-fountain-pen-restored
