1936-parker-vacumatic-oversize-golden-pearl-double-jewel-fountain-pen-restored
1936 PARKER VACUMATIC OVERSIZE GOLDEN PEARL DOUBLE JEWEL FOUNTAIN PEN RESTORED

For your consideration, we are pleased to offer this restored 1936 Parker Vacumatic Oversize Double Jewel Fountain Pen in Golden Pearl Celluloid, fitted with a 14K gold Fine nib. Representing Parker's largest size during the First Generation Vacumatic period, this is an especially desirable example for collectors seeking the more substantial and difficult-to-find Oversize configuration.

The Oversize Vacumatic occupies a particularly interesting place in Parker's Vacumatic history. It was the largest model produced during the First Generation, with dimensions comparable to the later Senior Maxima, yet its noticeably more substantial, rounded proportions give it a distinctly larger presence in the hand. The gripping section is also larger than that found on the later Senior Maxima, contributing to the impressive feel and character of this model.

This example has been thoroughly restored and is now in excellent working and writing condition. I ultrasonically cleaned the feed, section, breather tube, and barrel, replaced the original diaphragm with a new, properly sized diaphragm, and carefully restored the filling mechanism. The gold-filled Split Arrow Feather clip, three-ring cap band, 14K Parker nib, and blind-cap tassie were hand polished. The cap, barrel, and blind cap were carefully cleaned, buffed, and polished to restore the vibrancy of the Golden Pearl celluloid while preserving its vintage character.

The pen measures approximately 5 3/8 inches capped, 6 1/4 inches posted, and weighs approximately 0.74 ounces.

The cap and barrel are in magnificent condition, with no chips, cracks, or repairs. The cap retains its distinctive gold-filled Split Arrow Feather clip, which remains exceptionally clean with no notable wear. The substantial three-ring cap band is likewise bright, clean, and free of significant wear, with a rich gold-filled appearance. The striped top and bottom jewels are particularly attractive, matching the striped Golden Pearl celluloid of the cap, barrel, and section.

The barrel carries the Parker Vacumatic imprint: "GEO. S. PARKER PARKER VACUMATIC MADE IN U.S.A. PAT. 26" - the "26" date code, identifying this pen as a second-quarter 1936 production example. The imprint remains present throughout, although the "Made in U.S.A." portion is a bit faint and is best seen under magnification and appropriate lighting.

The barrel retains good transparency and can be seen through when held toward a light source, although it does exhibit moderate to heavy ambering, consistent with the age and history of the pen.

One of the important features of this example is its original Lockdown Vacumatic filling unit. The Lockdown filler is the correct filling mechanism for Parker's First Generation Vacumatics produced from approximately 1933 through 1937 and is an important detail for collectors concerned with historical correctness. The filling mechanism has been restored, lubricated, and tested with water. It operates smoothly and fills as designed, typically requiring approximately 12–16 presses to achieve a full fill in my testing.

At the heart of the pen is its 14K Parker U.S.A. gold nib, fitted with a Fine point. The tipping measures approximately 0.49mm using digital calipers. In the writing sample, the nib produces a fine line measuring approximately 0.44mm, expanding naturally to approximately 0.69mm with normal to moderate pressure. The writing sample was produced using the actual pen offered for sale by dipping the nib into Faber-Castell Cobalt Blue ink. The nib writes smoothly and provides an enjoyable, controlled writing experience.

The Golden Pearl Vacumatic is among the most visually appealing configurations produced by Parker, with its shimmering striped celluloid displaying varying shades of gold, pearl, and darker contrasting striations. On this example, the coloring remains particularly attractive, and the matching striped jewels and section add considerably to its visual appeal.

Finding a First Generation Parker Vacumatic in the Oversize configuration is considerably more difficult than finding the smaller standard models. Finding one with the desirable Golden Pearl celluloid, Double Jewel construction, striped section, matching striped jewels, three-ring cap band, Feather Split Arrow clip, and correct Lockdown filler makes this an especially compelling collector's example.

This is precisely the type of Vacumatic that experienced Parker collectors tend to seek: a large and substantial First Generation model with the correct period components, attractive celluloid, bright gold-filled trim, and a complete working restoration.

I would conservatively grade this Parker Vacumatic Very Fine+ to Excellent overall condition. While the barrel transparency has moderate to heavy ambering and portions of the imprint are faint, the pen remains structurally excellent with beautiful Golden Pearl coloration, clean trim, matching jewels, and the desirable First Generation Oversize configuration.

A wonderful example of Parker's early Vacumatic engineering and design, this 1936 Parker Vacumatic Oversize Double Jewel is ready to return to service or take its place among a serious collection of vintage Parker writing instruments.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1862/4123/files/1936ParkerOversizedGoldenPearlVacumaticFountainPen1.jpg?v=1786482014
https://antiquedigger.com/products/1936-parker-vacumatic-oversize-golden-pearl-double-jewel-fountain-pen-restored
