Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Spectacular 1902 Waterman 322 Black Hard Rubber Eyedropper Filler Taper Cap Fountain Pen with fully hallmarked London 9CT solid gold Barleycorn Overlay in the original box. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition. Extremely rare Waterman Fountain Pen

Hand cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil. Cleaned and polished the outside of the cap and barrel along with the 14K Waterman No. 2 Nib.

This fountain pen is made from black hard rubber with 9CT Gold Barleycorn Overlay. The Waterman Taper Cap displays little wear with a perfectly crisp imprint that reads, "WATERMAN'S IDEAL FOUNTAIN PEN N.Y. PAT. FEB. 12 & NOV. 4, 1884". All the 9CT Overlay has been polished to shine brightly. The Taper Cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. There are no monograms or personalizations on the cap or barrel. There are no cracks or repairs to the hard rubber or the 9ct gold overlay. The overlay is fully hallmarked with F.D.W. (Frank D. Waterman), 9 375 (gold content), g date code (1902), Lion Head ( London made hallmark). This Waterman measures 5 3/4" in length capped and 6 3/4" posted.

This Waterman Taper Cap Fountain Pen comes with the original Waterman Leather covered and green velvet-lined box. The inside of the box displays some ink stains and wear. The outside of the box is in good condition with the clasp functioning and no real wearing of the material.

This Waterman Taper Cap Fountain Pen is an Eyedropper Fill type. I have tested the filling system with water and works as it was originally intended to.

The Waterman Fountain Pen has a great No. 2 Ideal New York Stub Nib. The iridium tipping is in excellent condition with the point measuring 1.07mm when measured with digital calipers - a broad nib point. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with an extra-fine to double broad stroke/line. The fine line measures roughly .38mm on the horizontal strokes and will flex to a double broad stroke/line of 1.38mm with medium pressure when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This Waterman Taper Cap Fountain Pen with 9CT Solid Gold Overlay Pattern is in incredible condition. I would consider the condition of this fountain pen to grade in Excellent condition. If you are a collector of these types of Taper Cap Overlay Fountain Pen then I would care to guess you will be very pleased with this one in terms of condition. Finding one of these early Waterman Taper Cap and Solid Gold overlays are extremely scarce to add to one's writing arsenal collection.
