Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Rare 1920s Star Pen Co Chased Black Hard Rubber Lever Filler Fountain Pen that was based out of Cincinnati, Ohio. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

Ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap. Cleaned, Buffed, and Polished the outside of the cap and barrel to bring back the vibrancy and to protect the hard rubber. This Star Pen Co Fountain Pen is a Lever Fill type. The lever is Nickel plated and displays no wear. This fountain pen is made from a black chased hard rubber. The coloring is a deep great black color with no oxidation. The chasing of the hard rubber still displays very well on both the cap and barrel. The barrel has a fairly clean imprint (double stamped in some areas) at the center of the barrel that reads, "STAR PEN GUARANTEED 3 YEARS CINCINNATI, OHIO U.S.A. ".

The cap is a clipless type with it being a screw on/off type. The cap always securing tightly to the barrel. There are no personalizations or monograms either the cap or the barrel. There are no cracks, nicks, or repairs to the hard rubber. This Star Pen measures 5 1/2" in length capped and 6 5/8" posted.

This Star Pen has a14K Nib that is semi-flexible. When measuring the actual tip of the 14K NIB, it measures with a medium point of .74mm with digital calipers. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a medium to broad line. The medium line is measuring roughly .74mm with light pressure and will flex to a broad line of 1.17mm with medium pressure when measuring with digital calipers. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue-Black Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This Star Pen Co. Fountain Pen was based out of Cincinnati, Ohio in the 1920s and very uncommon to find. Some collectors refer to Star as a rival of John Holland and Weidlich pens, but some later Weidlich pens have Star nibs. It is unclear if Star and Weidlich were always the same company or if Weidlich bought Star later on - little company info can be found on Star Pen Co. I would consider this fountain pen to be in Very Fine to Excellent condition. A fantastic antique fountain pen to add to one's writing arsenal collection.
