Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Restored 1920s Waterman 452 Hard Rubber Fountain Pen with Sterling Silver Uncommon Pansy Panel Overlay. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

Ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new, properly sized, #16 rubber sac. Hand polished the Sterling Waterman Ideal Cap & Clip, Barrel and Ideal Lever Box Assembly along with the Ideal 14K #2 NIB. The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. There are no monograms or personalizations on the barrel with the cartouche area being left untouched. There are no cracks, nicks or repairs to the hard rubber. The sterling overlay looks beautiful, with some light scratching that commensurates with the age of the pen. The Pansy Engraved motif is a bit uncommon and is very sought after by collectors. This Waterman 452 measures 5 3/8" in length capped and 6 5/8" posted. The lever and box assembly has been cleaned and oiled. It works flawlessly and smoothly. The Globe and Ideal imprint on the lever is crisp and clean.

This fountain pen is made from black hard rubber with Sterling Silver Overlay. The sterling silver overlay is known as a Pansy pattern. The hard rubber portion of the pen displays black hard rubber color with slight oxidation. The barrel end has a light imprint that can be seen with the naked eye that reads, "WATERMAN'S REG U.S. PAT. OFF. MADE IN USA".

The Waterman NIB is a 14K #2 Flexible and Responsive Waterman NIB. It writes great and smooth, a wonderful NIB to write with. When measuring the actual tip of the 14K Ideal NIB, it measures at .60mm with digital calipers. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a fine line measuring roughly .50mm on the horizontal strokes in the writing sample and flexes up to triple broad stroke of approximately 1.97mm with medium to firm pressure, I didn't want to overextend the NIB's capabilities. The writing sample provided in the images was completed with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. I have tested the filling mechanism with water and fills wonderfully. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This is a wonderful antique Waterman's 452 Fountain Pen that is in ready to write condition using the lovely flexible NIB. I would grade this Waterman 452 in excellent condition. A superb writing instrument to add to your writing arsenal collection!
