Description

For your consideration we are offering for sale this early 1920s Waterman 52 Black Hard Rubber Fountain Pen (no chasing). This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

Ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil. Cleaned the pressure bar. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new, properly size, #15 silicone sac. Hand polished the Gold Filled Clip Cap, Cap Band and Lever Box along with the Ideal 14K NIB. There is a very tiny bit of brassing on the banding of the clip cap, the lever and ball of the clip.

This fountain pen is made from black hard rubber and is smooth, no chasing on this pen. This pen has a nice black color. The barrel imprint at the center can be seen, but is not crisp and reads, "WATERMAN'S REG U.S. WATERMAN'S IDEAL GLOBE Mark PAT OFF. FOUNTAIN PEN". The butt of the barrel has the Waterman imprint as well, it is more crisp than the center barrel imprint and reads, "WATERMAN'S REG U.S. PAT OFF. MADE IN U.S.A.". The butt end of the fountain pen is stamped with the 52 imprint.

The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly. There are no monograms on the barrel. There are no cracks, nicks or repairs to the hard rubber. This Waterman 52 measures 5 5/16" in length capped and 6 1/2" posted. The 14K Ideal NIB has a medium point measuring roughly .60mm, measured with digital calipers.

When writing a sample with the NIB, it writes with a fine line measuring roughly .44mm on the finest line in the writing sample and flexes up to roughly 2.44mm with low to medium pressure (as measured the widest lines in the writing example), I didn't want to overextend the NIB's capabilities. The NIB flexes very easily and can easily write with a broad stroke really with no relative effort. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that is listed for sale. I have tested the filling mechanism with water and fills as it should. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Black Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This is an excellent, antique Waterman's 52 Fountain Pen that is in ready to write condition using this great flexible NIB
