Description

For your consideration we are offering for sale this Restored 1920s Waterman 52V Blue Ripple Fountain Pen with 18K Gold Filled Trim. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new, properly sized silicone sac. Hand polished the Waterman Ideal 18K Gold Filled Clip, Cap Banding and Ideal lever box assembly along with the flexible Ideal 14K #2 NIB.

This fountain pen is made from hard rubber in the Blue Ripple pattern. The fountain barrel has a strong, clean imprint on the side of the barrel that, "WATERMAN'S REG US IDEAL GLOBE LOGO PAT. OFF. FOUNTAIN PEN RIPPLE". The butt end of the fountain pen displays a strong 52V imprint. The 18K Gold Filled Waterman Ideal Clip has ever so slight brassing to the ball area of the clip. The cap banding is extremely clean, but you can see under magnification a couple areas with very small amount of brassing. The IDEAL lever assembly is clean with no brassing.

The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. There are no monograms or personalizations to either the cap or barrel. There are no cracks, nicks or repairs to the hard rubber and the color displays wonderfully for it's age. This Waterman measures 4 3/8" in length capped and 5 5/8" posted.

The lever and box assembly has been cleaned and oiled. The Globe and Ideal imprint on the lever is crisp and clean, no brassing. I have tested the filling mechanism with water and fills as it was intended to.

The NIB on this Waterman is 14K - #2 size. The NIB writes with an extra fine point and can flex up to a triple broad stroke - it does have great flexibility and responsiveness. When measuring the actual tip of the 14K #2 Ideal NIB, it measures at .58mm with digital calipers. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with an extra fine line measuring roughly .36mm with very light pressure on the horizontal strokes and flexes up to a triple broad stroke 2.18mm (see image) with firm to medium pressure, I didn't want to overextend the NIB's capabilities. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that is listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue-Black Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This is antique Waterman's Fountain Pen is in ready to write condition using this wonderful flexible NIB. I would consider the condition of this fountain to grade in excellent condition and certainly would be a fine writing instrument to add to your writing arsenal collection.
