Description

For your consideration we are offering for sale this Restored 1920s Waterman #58 Black Chased Hard Rubber Fountain Pen. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

Ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil. Cleaned, buffed, and polished the outside of the cap and barrel. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new silicone sac. Hand polished the Nickel Clip Cap Clip, Lever Box Assembly along with the Waterman 14K #8 NIB.

This fountain pen is made from hard rubber in the Black Chased pattern. The coloring is a deep black with the chasing being a bit light but is even/consistent from cap to barrel. The lever is crisp and clean with no wear of the Nickel material. The Waterman Ideal Clip-Cap has been polished and displays no wear. The barrel has the imprint at the center of the barrel that is clean and can be easily read, "PAT'D 1884 MAY 23, 1899 WATERMAN'S IDEAL GLOBE LOGO FOUNTAIN PEN N.Y. U.S.A. AUG 4, 1903". The butt end of the fountain pen has a crisp number "56" imprint. The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. There are no monograms or personalization to either the cap or barrel. There are no cracks, nicks or repairs to the hard rubber. This Waterman #58 is a monster/large pen that measures 6" in length capped and 7 7/8" posted.

The lever and box assembly has been cleaned and oiled. I have tested the lever filling systems with water and works flawlessly and as it was originally intended to.

This Waterman has #8 IDEAL NEW YORK Nib. The iridium tipping is in excellent condition with the point measuring .61mm when measured with digital calipers - a medium point. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a medium line measuring roughly .63mm and will flex upwards to a triple broad+ stroke of between 2.24mm to 2.44mm when measured with digital calipers - I didn't want to overextend the nib's capabilities. The Nib has excellent responsiveness and overall a great pen to write with. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This antique Waterman #58 Black Chased Hard Rubber Fountain Pen is in ready to write condition using the incredible flexible NIB. I would consider the condition of this fountain pen to grade in Very Fine condition and certainly a Huge pen that every Waterman collector clamors for. This Waterman #58 Fountain Pen is in ready to write condition or add it to your writing arsenal collection.
