Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Restored Circa 1920s Waterman 94 Olive Ripple Hard Rubber Fountain Pen with 18K Gold Filled Trim. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

Ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap. Cleaned, Buffed, and Polished the outside of the cap and barrel to bring back the vibrancy and to protect the hard rubber. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new, rubber sac. Hand polished the Gold Filled Clip, Cap Banding, and Lever Box Assembly along with the Waterman New York Ideal 14K #4 NIB.

This fountain pen is made from hard rubber in what is referred to the Olive Ripple pattern. The coloring is an excellent brown and blacks with the cap and barrel matching excellent. The barrel has a light imprint at the center of the barrel that reads, "WATERMAN'S REG. U.S. IDEAL GLOBE LOGO PAT. OFF FOUNTAIN PEN RIPPLE". The butt end of the fountain pen has the 94 imprint.

The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly. There are no personalizations or monograms either the cap or the barrel. There are no cracks, nicks or repairs to the hard rubber. This Waterman 94 measures 5 1/8" in length capped and 6 1/2" posted.

The lever and box assembly have been cleaned and oiled. It works flawlessly and smoothly. The lever displays some wear on the arm of the lever and at the top and bottom of the area of the IDEAL imprint (see image). The Clip has been polished and displays almost no wear - on the left and right sides of the ball are very minor pinhead wear spots. The cap banding only displays two extremely small spots of wear but would consider it very insignificant with the condition way above average for a pen of this era.

This is the fun part - this Waterman 14K New York nib has some great flexibility all while writing smoothly. When measuring the actual tip of the 14K Ideal New York #4 NIB, it measures at .59mm with digital calipers. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a medium line measuring roughly .60mm with very light pressure and flexes up to a Triple Broad of 2.24mm with normal to medium pressure; I didn't want to overextend the NIB's capabilities. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. I have tested the filling mechanism with water and fills wonderfully. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue-Black Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This vintage Waterman's 94 Fountain Pen is in ready to write condition using the incredible flexible NIB. I would consider the condition of this fountain pen to be in very fine to excellent condition This Waterman 94 is certainly fun to write with and difficult Waterman model to acquire - certainly, this is a collector grade writing instrument. An excellent addition to your writing arsenal collection.
