Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Restored 1935 OVERSIZED 1st Generation Parker Vacumatic Double Jewel Jet Black Celluloid Fountain Pen. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition. The Largest pen from the 1st Generation, the Oversize has maximum dimensions similar to the later Senior Maxima, but it's chunkier contour renders it of larger look and feel. The Oversize gripping section is larger than the Senior Maxima.

I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, section, breather tube, and barrel. Replaced the old diaphragm with a new, properly sized one. Hand polished the Feather Gold Plated Split Arrow Clip, 3-Ring Cap Banding, 14K USA PARKER 2-Tone Nib, and Bottom Tassel. Cleaned, Buffed, Polished and Waxed the Barrel, Cap, and Blind Cap to bring back the vibrancy and to protect the celluloid of fountain pen. This Parker Vacumatic is an Oversize model which measures 5 3/8" capped and 6 1/4" posted.

This fountain pen cap and barrel are in magnificent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. The cap has the Feather Split Arrow Gold Filled Clip with no brassing. The 3-Ring Cap Banding displays no brassing and has a fabulous gold filled color. The top and bottle jewels are striped with both being polished to a high shine. The barrel is clearly stamped with, " GEO. S. PARKER PARKER VACUMATIC MADE IN USA with date code 5 (for 1935) in the 4th quarter ". COLLECTOR ALERT: Note the Date Imprint, it is vertically stamped instead of the traditional horizontal method - it is an uncommon variant that I have seen a few times before but never on an Oversize Parker Vac. This is a desirable error variant that collector rarely find. The transparency on the barrel is near water clear with minor to mild ambering.

The filling unit on this Parker is known as a "lockdown" filler. It is the proper filling unit for Parker 1st Generation Fountain Pens that were produced from 1932 to 1937. I have tested the filling mechanism with water and fills as it should. The Lockdown Vacumatic Filling System works great, typically in my tests with water about 12 to 14 presses to nearly full. I have greased the filling unit, so it operates smoothly.

This Oversize Parker Vacumatic has a 14K Stub - 2-Tone Nib that retains nearly all of the Platinum coating. This 14K Parker NIB provides a smooth writing experience. The actual 14K Parker NIB has a broad point measuring roughly .90mm when measured with digital calipers. When writing a sample with this NIB, it writes with a fine to a double broad stroke/line. In the writing sample provided, the fine line measures at .41mm on the horizontal strokes and the double broad line measures at 1.22mm under medium to firm pressure when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This is one of those vintage Parker Vacumatic Fountain Pens you don't always get a chance to secure in your collection in the Jet Black Celluloid and 1st Generation Oversize. The Black Celluloid is a Classic look and this Parker Oversize Vac looks and feels great in the hand. I would consider this Parker to be in Excellent Condition. This Oversize Parker Vac is restored and is ready to write with or just add it to your writing arsenal collection!
