Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this gorgeous Restored Circa 1936 OVERSIZE 1st Generation Parker Double Jewel Emerald Pearl Celluloid Fountain Pen. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition. The Largest pen from the 1st Generation, the Oversize has maximum dimensions similar to the later Senior Maxima, but its chunkier contour renders it of larger look and feel. The gripping section is larger than is found in the Senior Maxima.

I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, section, breather tube, and barrel. Replaced the old diaphragm with a new, properly sized one. Hand polished the Feather Gold Filled Split Arrow Clip, 3-Ring Cap Banding, 14K PARKER U.S.A. Nib, and bottom tassel. Cleaned, Buffed, Polished and Waxed the barrel, cap, and blind to bring back the vibrancy of fountain pen and to protect the celluloid. This Parker Vacumatic is an Oversize which measures 5 3/8" capped and 6 1/4" posted.

This fountain pen cap and barrel are in magnificent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. The cap has the Feather Split Arrow Gold Filled Clip with has a hint of wear at the top of the clip.  The 3-Ring Cap Banding displaying no brassing and has a rich gold filled color. The top and bottom jewels are striped to match the cap and barrel of the fountain pen.  The barrel is stamped and reads, "MADE IN CANADA VACUMATIC PAT NO. 318982 RED. TM OTHER PATENTS PENDING with Date Code 6 (for 1936) in the 1st Quarter". The transparency on the barrel is excellent with it being nearly water clear - it can easily be seen through albeit with minor ambering.

The filling unit on this Parker is known as a "lockdown" filler. It is the proper filling unit for Parker 1st Generation Fountain Pens that were produced from 1933 to 1937.  I have tested the filling mechanism with water and fills as it should. The Lockdown Vacumatic Filling System works great, typically in my tests with water about 15 to 20 presses to fill full. I have greased the filling unit, so it operates smoothly.

The Parker U.S.A. NIB is a 14K Gold Split Arrow NIB, which writes smoothly with a wet line. The Parker 2-Tone Nib displays some loss of the Platinum coating - I would estimate roughly 70% of the platinum coating is still intact - this is only cosmetic and does not compromise the writing of the nib. The actual 14K Parker NIB has a medium point measuring roughly .75mm when measured with digital calipers. When writing a sample with this NIB, it writes with a medium to a double broad stroke/line. In the writing sample provided, the medium line measures at .68mm and the double broad line measures at 1.30mm under normal to medium pressure when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue-Black Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This is one of those vintage Parker Vacumatic Fountain Pens you don't always get a chance to secure in your collection in the Emerald Pearl Celluloid and 1st Generation Oversize. I would consider this Parker to be in Very Fine to Excellent Condition, the color is vibrant with excellent transparency. This Parker Oversize is restored and is ready to write with or just add it to your writing arsenal collection.
