Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this gorgeous Restored Circa 1937 OVERSIZE 1st Generation Parker Double Jewel Emerald Pearl Celluloid Fountain Pen. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition. The Largest pen from the 1st Generation, the Oversize has maximum dimensions similar to the later Senior Maxima, but its chunkier contour renders it of larger look and feel. The gripping section is larger than is found in the Senior Maxima.

I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, section, breather tube, and barrel. Replaced the old diaphragm with a new, properly sized one. Hand polished the Feather Gold Filled Split Arrow Clip, 3-Ring Cap Banding, 14K PARKER U.S.A. Nib, and bottom tassel. Cleaned, Buffed, Polished and Waxed the barrel, cap, and blind to bring back the vibrancy of fountain pen and to protect the celluloid. This Parker Vacumatic is an Oversize which measures 5 3/8" capped and 6 1/4" posted.

This fountain pen cap and barrel are in magnificent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. The cap has the Feather Split Arrow Gold Filled Clip with has a hint of brassing on the "arrow point" and on the edging of the top clip. Very minor but want to point it out for clarity sake. The 3-Ring Cap Banding displaying no brassing and has a rich gold filled color. The top and bottom jewels are striped to match the cap, barrel, and section of the fountain pen. The section is striped to match the pen's cap, barrel, and jewels. The barrel is faintly stamped and all that can barely be read is, "Geo. S. Parker Vacumatic - the date code is non-existent ". The transparency on the barrel is fantastic - it can easily be seen through albeit with mild ambering.

The filling unit on this Parker is known as a "lockdown" filler. It is the proper filling unit for Parker 1st Generation Fountain Pens that were produced from 1933 to 1937 - which helps to date this pen from that time period. I have tested the filling mechanism with water and fills as it should. The Lockdown Vacumatic Filling System works great, typically in my tests with water about 9 to 11 presses to fill full. I have greased the filling unit, so it operates smoothly.

The Parker NIB is dated with the date code 8, for 1938 and is a factory replacement, which also helps to date the pen to circa 1937. The Parker NIB is a 14K Gold Split Arrow NIB, which writes extremely smooth - I cannot emphasize this enough this is an extremely smooth writing NIB! The actual 14K Parker NIB has a medium point measuring roughly .77mm when measured with digital calipers. When writing a sample with this NIB, it writes with a fine to a medium stroke/line. In the writing sample provided, the fine line measures at .54mm and the medium line measures at .83mm under normal to medium pressure when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that is listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue-Black Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This is one of those vintage Parker Vacumatic Fountain Pens you don't always get a chance to secure in your collection in the Emerald Pearl Celluloid and 1st Generation Oversize. I would consider this Parker to be in Very Fine to Excellent Condition, the color is fantastic with most all the items a collector looks for; double jewels, striped jewels, striped section, and 3 ring cap banding and it is the Big Boy of Vacumatics. If the imprint was more clear/crisp, I would not have any probably considering it to easily grade in excellent condition. It is restored and is ready to write with its ultra-smooth Nib or just add it to your writing arsenal collection.
