Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this vintage 1st Year 1952 Sheaffer Snorkel Demonstrator Fountain Pen. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful operating and writing condition.

I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB/feed, Nib Collar, and barrel. Hand polished the Gold Filled Clip, Cap Band and 14K 2-Tone Conical NIB. There is no brassing to any of the gold filled trim areas. I gently buffed and polished the barrel to help remove some of the outside surface scratchings.

This fountain pen cap and barrel are in very good condition with no chips, teeth marks or repairs and the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. Under the clip on the cap is a roughly 6.5mm stress mark - hard to find a "clean" cap from this era without some type of stress marks around the clip area. The cap displays the Sheaffer "White Dot" at the top of the cap and in good condition. Has the clear Nib assembly/section, barrel and blind cap, which are free from any stress cracks (see image 8). Has the correct Snorkel Demonstrator cap, not a replacement cap. Cap has the correct blackening on the inner cap but does display some black loss on the lower portion on the backside of the cap. There are no monograms or personalizations to the barrel or cap. The barrel is stamped with, "W.A. Sheaffer Pen Co., Fort Madison, Iowa U.S.A., Made in U.S.A.". There is a small amount of oxidation on the inside brass inner cap, which you can see in image several of the images. I would not take the risk of removing the inner cap to clean and polish this area and left as is. This Sheaffer Snorkel measures 5 9/16" in length capped and 6 3/8" posted.

Installed a new silicone properly sized #14 sac; the o-ring and point seal have been replaced with correct reproduction parts. The pen has been disassembled, cleaned and inspected for any defects before reassembling. The 14K gold first-year snorkel tube moves freely and draws ink as it should. I have tested the filling mechanism with water and fills and dispells as it was designed to.

The 14K 2-Tone F5 Conical NIB has a fine point measuring roughly .56mm when measured with digital calipers. In the writing sample provided, this NIB writes with an extra fine to fine line which measures roughly .40mm when measuring with a digital caliper. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This 1st Year Sheaffer Snorkel Demonstrator model is very scarce and extremely difficult to find in this condition. It is not mint condition, but better than most. It is ready to write or just add to writing arsenal collection. I would consider this a collector grade piece that should be cherished in a deserving collection.
