Description

For your consideration we are offering for sale this Restored 1920s Waterman 52 1/2V Red Ripple Hard Rubber Ringtop Fountain Pen & Pencil Set with 18K Gold Filled Trim. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

Ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new, properly size, #16 silicone sac. Hand polished the 18K Gold Filled Cap Banding and 18K Gold Filled Ideal Lever Box Assembly along with the Ideal 14K #2 NIB.

This fountain pen & pencil set is made from hard rubber in the red ripple design. The coloring is an amazing red and black color. The fountain barrel has a very crisp imprint at the center of the barrel that reads, "WATERMAN'S REG US IDEAL GLOBE LOGO PAT. OFF. FOUNTAIN PEN". The butt end of the fountain pen has the 52 1/2V imprint. The pencil has an imprint that reads, "WATERMAN'S PAT. APP'D FOR".

The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly. There are no monograms or personalizations on the cap, barrel or pencil. There are no cracks, nicks or repairs to the hard rubber. This Waterman 52 1/2V measures 4 1/4" in length capped and 5 1/2" posted. The Pencil measures 4" in length.

The lever and box assembly has been cleaned and oiled. It works flawlessly and smoothly. The Globe and Ideal imprint on the lever is crisp and clean, there is only a minor hint of brassing on the box - not on the lever. I just want to point it out for clarity sake.

When measuring the actual tip of the 14K #2 Ideal NIB, it measured at .68mm with digital calipers. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a fine line measuring roughly .41mm with very light pressure and flexes up to 1.82mm (see image) with normal to medium pressure, I didn't want to overextend the NIB's capabilities. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that is listed for sale. I have tested the filling mechanism with water and fills wonderfully. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue-Black Ink.

The pencil functions as it should. It is clean and no nicks, chips, cracks or repairs.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This is antique Waterman's 52 1/2V Fountain Pen is in ready to write condition using the incredible flexible NIB. I would consider the condition of this fountain in excellent to near mint condition and certainly a collector grade writing instrument.
