Description

For your consideration we are offering for sale this early 1920s Waterman 52V Red Ripple Hard Rubber Fountain Pen. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together.

Ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new, properly size, #16 silicone sac. Hand polished the Gold FIlled Clip Cap, Cap Band and Ideal Lever Box Assembly along with the Ideal 14K #2 NIB. The feed is a double spoon type feed in the red ripple pattern. The left side of the feed has a tiny rough spot. It doesn't hurt the flow of ink, but wanted to mention it for transparency sake.

This fountain pen is made from hard rubber in the Red Ripple pattern. The barrel has a bit of a worn imprint at the center and butt end, but can be seen with the Naked Eye that reads, "WATERMAN'S REG U.S. IDEAL GLOBE PAT. OFF. FOUNTAIN PEN". The butt end of the fountain pen has the 52V imprint.

The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly. There are no monograms on the barrel. There are no cracks, nicks or repairs to the hard rubber. This Waterman 52V measures 4 3/8" in length capped and 5 5/8" posted. When measuring the actual tip of the 14K Ideal NIB, it measured at .62mm with digital calipers.

The lever and box assembly has been removed, cleaned and oiled. It works flawlessly and smoothly. The lever box assembly is a replacement, not original to the pen - but a Waterman original for a later date.

When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a medium line measuring roughly .69mm with very light pressure and flexes up to 1.85mm (see image) with normal to firm pressure, which is right at the double broad stroke. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that is listed for sale. I have tested the filling mechanism with water & inks and fills. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Black Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.
