Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Restored Circa early 1930s Carter's Fountain Pen in the Scarce Off Catalog Olive "Snakeskin" Celluloid. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, ultrasonically cleaned, put back together and is now in wonderful writing condition.

I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Replaced the rubber sac with a new silicone sac. Hand polished the gold-filled clip, cap, and barrel banding. Cleaned, Buffed, Polished and Waxed the barrel and cap to bring back the vibrancy of fountain pen and to protect the celluloid. This Carter's Fountain Pen is a Lady or Demi size that measures 4 1/4" inches capped and 5 1/4" posted.

The fountain pen cap and barrel are in magnificent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. The clip on the cap displays some wear at the very top but overall the gold-filled trim is in excellent condition. The gold-filled lever is clean from any wear or brassing. There are no monograms or personalizations to either the cap or barrel.

I have tested the lever filling mechanism with water and fills as it should. The filling unit operates as it was originally intended to and smoothly.

Carter's INX NIB is 14K and generates a great writing experience. The actual writing portion of the 14K Carter Inx NIB has a medium point measuring roughly .68mm when measured with digital calipers. When writing a sample with this NIB, it writes with a fine to triple broad stroke line. In the writing sample provided, the fine line measures at .52mm and the triple broad measures 1.80mm when measured with digital calipers. The Carter Nib writes smoothly, a pleasure to write with. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Black Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

Carter was a well-known maker of fountain pen ink, but made fountain pens only for a few years, around 1930. It offered very high-quality pens, highly sought today by those who want top-tier pens by small makers. Pendom has a couple of Carter's period catalogs, which show some conventional Celluloid models along with the Pearltex Celluloid line. None of the known paper shows the "snakeskin" pens. The pattern of mottled brickwork is more subtle than that found on Parker's Golden Web. These are lovely and elegant fountain pens, quite scarce too.

This vintage Carter's Fountain Pen is a very clean example of the Snakeskin/Web celluloid pattern. Carter's made fountain pens from 1924 to 1932 I would consider this Carter to easily grade in Very Fine to Excellent Condition. It is a collector grade that you rarely find and is ready to write with or just add it to your writing arsenal collection.
