Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Scarce circa 1918 Conklin Crescent Filler 3 Leaf Filigree on Black Hard Rubber Fountain Pen. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. I hand cleaned the outside and inside of the cap and barrel with mineral oil. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new, properly sized #15 silicone sac. Hand polished the Conklin Gold Filled Clip, 3 Leaf Filigree, and 14K Conklin #2 NIB. Lighty Buffed, Polished and Mark Hoover's Balm on the barrel and cap to bring back the vibrancy of fountain pen filigree and to protect the black hard rubber. This Conklin Crescent measures 5 1/4" capped and 6 3/8" posted.

This fountain pen cap and barrel are in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs and the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. The black hard rubber color on this pen is excellent with no oxidation. The cap has the Gold Filled Conklin PAT May 28, 1918, Rocker Clip that works great. The clip shows just a hint of brassing at the end and very top of the clip - very minor. The backside of the cap has a large cartouche area with has been left untouched of monograms or personalizations. The gold 3-leaf filigree is in marvelous condition with no bends or brassing - shows some very minor scratching but extremely less than normal considering the age of this pen. The crescent filler is stamped on both sides, "CONKLIN" on one side and "RED US PAT OFF CRESCENT" opposite side. I have tested the Crescent filling mechanism with water and fills as it should. The Crescent Filling System works great and operates as it was intended to.

This Conklin Crescent has a 14K Conklin Toledo #2 Nib. The actual iridium on this Conklin Toledo #2 Nib has a medium point measuring roughly .63mm when measured with digital calipers. When writing a sample with this NIB, it writes with a fine to a triple broad stroke line. In the writing sample provided, the fine line measures at .55mm and will flex to a triple broad stroke measuring at 1.89mm with medium to firm pressure when measuring with digital calipers. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample also used Parker Quink Blue Ink by dipping the NIB ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This is one of those vintage Conklin Crescent Filigree Fountain Pens you don't always get a chance to secure for your collection. It is very scarce and should be a deserving collection. I would grade the pen in Excellent to Near Mint Condition. This Conklin is ready to write if you choose to do so, or just add it to your writing arsenal collection.
