Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this restored Scarce Circa 1932 Oversize Conklin Nozac Jet Black 7M Word Gauge V-Line or Chevron pattern Celluloid Fountain Pen. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, put back together, and now is in wonderful writing condition.

Note: The Conklin Nozac was in production from 1932 to 1938. This one has several key features that make it desirable. 1) it is a scarce Oversize or Senior Model, 2) it is a 7M Word Gauge type, 3) has the wide cap banding, 4) has the v-line or chevron visulated barrel.

I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand cleaned the inside and outside of the cap and barrel. Hand polished the Gold Filled Conklin Rocker Clip, Wide Cap Banding, and 14K Conklin NIB. The Conklin Rocker Clip does display a very tiny hint of wear at the very end point of the clip - I point it out for clarity sake as it cannot be seen by the naked eye. The gold-filled cap banding does not display any wear and has been polished to shine brightly. I have cleaned, buffed, and polished the barrel and cap to bring back the vibrancy of the fountain pen and to protect the celluloid. This Conklin Nozac is the Oversize or Senior size model that measures 5 5/8" capped and 6 3/8" posted.

The fountain pen cap and barrel are in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. The cap and barrel have a gorgeous deep Jet Black coloring that is consistent between the cap and barrel. The barrel transparency is near water clear with mild ambering. The faceted barrel and cap have 12 sides. The barrel is stamped with, "THE CONKLIN PEN CO TOLEDO OHIO. U.S.A. NOZAC D. 84394 REG. U.S. PAT. OFF." Additionally, there are word gauge imprints on the barrel that are clearly marked from 1M to 7M. There are no monograms or personalizations to either the cap or barrel.

Installed are new rubber o-rings that replaced the broken-down and deteriorated original cork seal. The pen has been disassembled, cleaned, and inspected for any defects before reassembling. The piston filling system is now working as it was originally intended to. I have tested the filling mechanism with water to fills and empties as it was originally designed to. Lastly, the end of the piston knob has the imprints of "FILL" and "EMPTY" clearly marked.

The 14K Conklin NIB has a medium point measuring roughly .81mm when measured with digital calipers. In the writing sample provided, the nib writes with a medium line measuring roughly .63mm with light pressure and will flex to a broad line which measures roughly 1.09mm with firm pressure when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample in this listing was completed with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Montblanc Blue Ink.

This Conklin V-Line/Chevron Fountain Pen is an extremely desirable and difficult model to find in the Oversize or Senior size. I would consider this Conklin to grade in Very Fine+ to Excellent Condition. The imprints are good, the color is great for being black, has the wide cap banding which tough to find, v-line visulated barrel, working piston filling mechanism, with great gold filled trim - everything a collector wants in this type of model. I would consider this a collector grade Oversize V Line/Herringbone Conklin that should be cherished in a deserving collection.
