Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Immaculate Circa 1915 Conklin 3NL Black Chased Hard Rubber Fountain Pen. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

This fountain pen cap and barrel are in as close to perfect condition as one can get with color, chasing, with no chips, cracks or repairs and the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. The barrel is clearly stamped with, "CONKLIN SELF-FILLING PEN NON-LEAKABLE TOLEDO OHIO U.S.A. and the 3NL model number". The cap clip has the "CONKLIN" imprint with "PAT. PENDING" which makes this an early type most clips will have the Pat. Pend with date) The crescent filler is stamped on one side, "CRESCENT-FILLER TRADE MARK". I have tested the Crescent filling mechanism with water and fills as it should. The Crescent Filling System works great and operates as it was intended to. The Gold Filled Clip and Crescent Filler are in near perfect condition with no gold filled loss.

I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB and feed. I hand cleaned the outside and inside of the cap and barrel with mineral oil. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new silicone sac. The Black Chased Hard Rubber material has perfect black coloring and the chasing is clean and crisp - the way these should look. This has to be the best Conklin Black Chased Hard Rubber Fountain Pen I have ever handled - it is near mint condition. This Conklin 3NL Fountain Pen measures 5 1/2" capped and 7" posted.

This Conklin 3NL has the appropriate #3 Nib that is semi-flexible. The actual iridium tip on this Nib has a medium point measuring roughly .69mm when measured with digital calipers. When writing a sample with this NIB, it writes with a fine to a double broad stroke line. In the writing sample provided, the fine line measures at .54mm and will flex to a double broad stroke measuring at 1.61mm with normal to medium pressure when measuring with digital calipers.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

The Conklin 3NL is in Near Mint-Mint condition and I would consider it the best fountain pen I have handled from Conklin from this era - it would be hard pressed to find another in this condition. The hard rubber material is quite remarkable with it's amazing chasing crispness and deep black coloring. This Conklin is ready to write if you choose to do so, or just add it to your writing arsenal collection.
