Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Restored Circa 1934 Conklin Ensemble Black & Bronze Celluloid Fountain Pen/Pencil Combo. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB and feed. I have hand cleaned the outside and inside of the cap and barrel. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new rubber sac. Hand polished the Conklin Gold Filled Rocker Clip, Smooth Cap Banding, Lever, and 14K Conklin Toledo NIB. I have clean, buffed, polished, and waxed the cap and barrel to bring back the vibrancy and to protect the celluloid of the Fountain Pen/Pencil. This Conklin Ensemble measures 5 3/4" capped and 6" posted.

This fountain pen cap and barrel are in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. The black and bronze celluloid color on this pen is fantastic - the coloring is well preserved and a real treat. The cap has the Gold Filled Conklin PAT May 28, 1918, Clip with the Gold Filled Cap Banding. The clip displays a bit of wear at the top portion of the clip near the "Conklin" stamping. The cap banding is clean and displays no brassing. The lever is stamped with, "PAT NOV 17, 1925" and displays no wear of the gold filled overlay. The gold filled pencil cone show some like wear. Overall the gold filled trim display rarely quite well and bright. The barrel is stamped with, "Trade CONKLIN Mark TOLEDO OHIO U.S.A. ENSEMBLE".

I have tested the filling mechanism with water and fills as it should. The Filling System works great and operates as it was intended to. The propelling and repelling of the pencil lead is also in working order.

This Conklin Ensemble has a 14K Conklin Toledo Nib. The actual iridium tip on this Ensemble Nib has a medium point measuring roughly .68mm when measured with digital calipers. When writing a sample with this NIB, it writes with a double extra fine to a medium stroke/line. In the writing sample provided, the double extra fine line measures at .31mm and will flex to a medium stroke measuring at .77mm with medium to firm pressure when I measured with digital calipers. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was performed by dipping the Nib in Parker Quink Blue Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This Conklin Ensemble Fountain Pen is an elusive and collectible fountain pen/pencil combo in this gorgeous Black & Bronze celluloid. I would grade the pen in very fine to excellent condition. It is ready to write with or just add it to your writing arsenal collection.
