Produced in a strictly limited edition of only 500 pieces worldwide, this example is number 371, and beautifully captures the spirit of Italian craftsmanship, motorsport heritage, and refined writing culture. This example has never been inked and is in Mint condition with its box and limited edition literature.
This striking fountain pen features a rich red peralized resin barrel and cap, a color choice that unmistakably evokes classic Italian racing livery and the passion associated with the legendary Mille Miglia road race—often called “the most beautiful race in the world.” The vibrant resin provides a bold contrast to the pen’s ornate sterling silver components, creating a visually dramatic and unmistakably Montegrappa aesthetic.
The pen’s solid sterling silver (.925) overlays are entirely hand-engraved by the renowned Bottega Incisioni Cesare Giovannelli, a master engraving workshop celebrated for its centuries-old Italian engraving tradition. The intricate motifs are inspired by Mille Miglia racing elements and are executed with exceptional depth, precision, and artistry—details that simply cannot be replicated by machine engraving. Each engraved surface reflects countless hours of skilled handwork, making every pen subtly unique.
The fountain pen measures 5 5/8" inches capped, 6 3/4" inches posted, and 1.88 ounces. The fountain pen employs a piston-filling system, which has been carefully tested with water to ensure smooth, proper operation as originally intended.
The pen is fitted with an 18K gold Montegrappa two-tone (Platinum-plated) nib, marked “750, MONTEGRAPPA, M, Italy”. The iridium tipping measures approximately .82 mm when measured with digital calipers, aligning with its Medium designation. As the pen has never been inked, the nib has been intentionally left untouched, preserving its originality for the next custodian.
