For your consideration, we are pleased to offer this beautifully preserved circa 1959–1967 Montblanc No. 32 Piston-Filling Fountain Pen, fitted with a particularly desirable 14C/585 gold Intarsia nib. This is an exceptionally enjoyable vintage Montblanc, combining the understated elegance of the classic No. 32 design with a wonderfully smooth, responsive nib that makes writing an absolute pleasure. Carefully serviced and beautifully presented, this example offers both genuine collector appeal and the satisfaction of a fine vintage writing instrument ready to be enjoyed.
The cap, barrel, and section present magnificently, with the original resin exhibiting attractive depth and vibrancy following a careful cleaning and polishing. One especially appealing detail is the blue visualated barrel ring, which remains in excellent condition and provides a distinctive glimpse into the pen's ink supply. The cap and barrel show no chips, cracks, or repairs, and the threaded cap secures firmly to the barrel as intended. The original snowcap Montblanc emblem remains present on both the top of the cap and the end of the barrel. The gold-filled clip displays some minor, honest wear consistent with careful use, while the gold-filled cap banding exhibits minor wear along its edges. The cap band is clearly stamped “MONTBLANC No 32,” retaining the identifying detail collectors look for in this classic model.
The pen has received a thorough servicing, including ultrasonic cleaning of the nib, feed, and section, and careful hand-cleaning and polishing of the cap, barrel, and gold-filled appointments. The exterior resin has been cleaned, buffed, and polished to restore its attractive finish. The piston-filling mechanism has been cleaned and lubricated, then tested to confirm smooth, proper operation. The result is a beautifully presented Montblanc with a properly functioning filling system and a nib ready to write.
The real highlight, however, is the magnificent 14C/585 gold Intarsia nib. The nib tipping measures approximately 0.67 mm when checked with digital calipers, placing it in the Medium range. What makes this nib particularly special is its writing character. It is exceptionally smooth, with a soft, responsive feel on paper and a wonderfully pleasant flow of ink. In writing tests using this actual pen, the nib produces strokes ranging from approximately .63mm to 1.00mm under medium to firm pressure, providing an enjoyable variation from Medium to Broad. It is a genuinely delightful writer, with the kind of smoothness and responsiveness that makes it easy to understand why collectors appreciate these vintage Montblanc nibs. The writing sample shown in the listing photographs was produced with this actual pen by dipping the nib in Pelikan Royal Blue ink.
Measuring approximately 5 1/8 inches capped and 5 1/2 inches posted, and weighing just 0.47 ounces, the Montblanc No. 32 is a comfortable, well-proportioned writing instrument. Its classic proportions, understated gold-filled appointments, and distinctive visualated barrel detail make it an attractive example of Montblanc's mid-century production.
Condition: Very Fine. The pen is in very fine overall condition, with no chips, cracks, or repairs to the cap or barrel. The original snowcap emblems remain intact, the blue visualated barrel ring is in excellent condition, and the threaded cap fits securely. There is some minor, honest wear to the gold-filled clip and along the edges of the cap banding, consistent with the pen's age and previous use. The piston-filling mechanism functions smoothly, and the exceptional 14C/585 Intarsia nib delivers an extraordinarily smooth and satisfying writing experience.
For the Montblanc collector, this No. 32 represents an appealing example of the company's classic mid-century fountain pen design, made all the more desirable by its distinctive Intarsia nib. Finding a vintage Montblanc in such attractive condition is rewarding; finding one that writes this beautifully makes it even better. This is a pen that deserves a place in a collection, but more importantly, one that is far too enjoyable to simply leave sitting in a display case.
