For your consideration, I am pleased to offer for sale this New Old Stock, Never Inked 1993 Montblanc Patron of Art Octavian Fountain Pen, Limited Edition 3482/4810. This example is complete with its original presentation boxes, Montblanc literature, and the original Medium nib sticker still affixed to the blind cap. Having never been inked or used, it remains in true Mint, NOS condition, fitted with an 18K Medium nib.
Introduced as the second release in Montblanc’s prestigious Patron of Art series, the Octavian honors Gaius Octavian—Augustus, the visionary ruler whose leadership ushered Rome into an era of peace, architectural splendor, and cultural flourishing. His transformation of the city into a beacon of art, marble, and intellectual vitality inspired one of Montblanc’s most striking early limited editions.
The Octavian's design pays homage to Augustus’ intricate political and architectural legacy through its dramatic sterling silver Ag 925 spider-web overlay. Delicate silver threads encircle the black precious-resin barrel and cap, culminating in a stylized silver spider at the center of the web. The handcrafted rhodium-coated 18K/750 gold nib carries a matching engraved spider motif, making this one of the most artistically cohesive Patron of Art designs ever produced.
Both the cap and barrel are in pristine condition—no cracks, nicks, dings, or repairs—with the cap threading securely and cleanly to the barrel. The sterling silver overlay is immaculate and polished to a brilliant shine. The cap is stamped with the limited edition number 3482/4810, Germany, and on the reverse the full silver hallmarks: 925, StØD, the balance scales, and the duck assay mark. There are no monograms or personalizations. The pen measures 5 5/8" capped and 6 3/8" posted.
This Octavian features Montblanc’s brass piston-filling system, which I have tested with water and found to function smoothly and correctly. During inspection, the interior showed no evidence of prior inking, confirming its Never Inked status.
The 18K two-tone Medium nib is beautifully detailed, bearing the inscriptions 4810, 18K/750, MONTBLANC, and StØD, along with the engraved spider motif. The point measures approximately 0.84 mm with digital calipers. I have not inked the pen in order to preserve its Mint, NOS condition for the next collector.
Included with the pen are the original inner and outer boxes, Montblanc literature, and the International Service Certificate/Warranty card. For accuracy: the back left hinge of the wooden box shows a crack (see image 13), though the box opens and closes.
The Montblanc Patron of Art Octavian is both a magnificent writing instrument and a sculptural piece of art—one of the most iconic designs in the early POA series. I grade this pen Mint, Never Inked, New Old Stock, ready to be cherished as a centerpiece in any fine writing collection.
