Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Circa 2006 Danitrio Toki (Crested Ibis) Maki-e on Densho (model number DE-122) Fountain Pen fitted with an 18K "Fireball" Medium Nib. This Danitrio Fountain Pen comes with the original black lacquered wooden box, documentation, polishing cloth, eyedropper, and pen sleeve. The fountain pen has never been inked, and I consider this example in Mint condition!

In Japanese culture, the Crested Ibis, known as "toki" in Japanese, holds deep cultural and historical significance. It is a symbol of Japan, representing beauty, hope, and the country's connection with nature. Revered for centuries, the crested ibis was even protected by shoguns who forbade hunting it. Its feathers were used in royal rituals, and its color remains popular in Japanese art and clothing. Furthermore, the crested ibis has become a symbol of international cooperation between Japan, China, and South Korea, particularly in conservation efforts.  The intricate Maki-e Crested Ibis artwork on this piece uses the Shishiai Togidashi Maki-e technique—one of the most challenging and revered methods in Japanese lacquer art. Tsukegaki (very thin lines drawn with sticky Urushi, onto which fine gold powder is sprinkled) is used for the ground with water and grass. The Maki-e artwork showcases the artisan, Mr. Koichiro Okazaki's, exceptional skill and attention to detail. The process of urushi lacquer takes anywhere from 2 to 6 months to complete.

The Danitrio Crested Ibis model comes with the Danitrio gold-plated clip. The pen is in Mint condition with no nicks, cracks, scratches, wear, or repairs. The blind cap displays Mr. Koichiro Okazaki's signature as shown in image #11. The cap is always securing to the barrel tightly via threads. This Danitrio Densho - Crested Ibis Fountain Pen measures 6" capped and has a diameter of 17.01mm around the widest point, which is the center of the cap, and weighs 1.01 ounces.

The Danitrio Fountain Pen comes fitted with an 18K - #6 Medium Nib. The point measures at .88mm, or a medium point, when measured with digital calipers. Often referred to by Danitrio collectors as the “fireball nib,” the design features an image of Kaen-Kōhai—a flame-shaped halo associated with Fudō Myōō (Acala), the"God of Fire.

The Danitrio uses an Eyedropper filling system. There is an eyedropper accompanying this fountain pen in the box.

The Danitrio comes with the original black lacquered box with a Japanese script and Maki-e on the cover. Internally, we have the Danitrio Densho Maki-e Collection - Model DE-122 documentation literature, Danitrio Eyedropper, Danitrio branded polishing cloth, and the Kimono fabric pen sleeve.

This Danitrio Fountain Pen is individually handmade and takes roughly 2 to 6 months to get one of these completed. While not a limited edition, there were no more than 100 pieces made. I would consider this one in Mint Condition. This Danitrio Fountain Pen is considered a piece of fine artwork with fabulous detail. It is a spectacular and rare piece to add to one's writing arsenal collection.
