Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this recently serviced Circa 1973-1980  Montblanc No 146 MEISTERSTUCK Fountain Pen with Stub Nib in Excellent Condition. This fountain pen has been cleaned internally, buffed, polished, put back together, and now is in wonderful writing condition.

This Montblanc has the proper ebonite rounded feed, 14K Monotone Nib, single-unit barrel construction, Blue Gray Clear Ink-Window, and a black plastic filler mechanism. The cap clip ring banding is stamped, "Germany". We can date this Montblanc 146 between 1973 to 1980 based on these attributes.

This fountain pen cap and barrel are in magnificent condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. The cap has the gorgeous Gold Filled Clip and Cap Banding which display absolutely no wear. The cap banding is stamped with, "MONTBLANC MEISTERSTUCK No 146". The transparency of the ink-view window is "Water Clear". I have cleaned, buffed, and polished the cap and barrel. I also cleaned the internal components of this pen and greased the piston filler to work smoothly. There are no monograms or personalizations to either the barrel or cap. This Montblanc 146 Fountain Pen measures 5 5/8" in length capped and 6 3/8" posted.

I have greased and tested the piston filling mechanism with water and fills as it should. The Piston Filling System works as it was intended and effortlessly.

The Montblanc NIB is a 14K/585 Monotone Semi-Flexible NIB. The 14K Montblanc NIB has a factory Stub point measuring roughly 1.20mm when measured with digital calipers. When creating a writing sample, the NIB writes with a smooth stroke that performs with a medium to double broad stroke/line. The writing sample provided in the image has a medium stroke measuring at .70mm on the horizontal strokes and the double broad stroke measures roughly 1.68mm on the vertical strokes when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Montblanc Blue Ink.

This is a wonderful example of the iconic Montblanc No. 146 Fountain Pen from the 1970s. These vintage Montblanc Fountain Pens are becoming increasingly more collectible and certainly harder to find. The STUB nib really makes this pen standout and uncommon - thus the reason for the premium price compared to other 146s with med or fine nibs. I would grade this fine writing instrument in Excellent to Excellent+ Condition. It is ready to write with or just add to your writing arsenal collection.
