Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Circa 2000 Montblanc Meisterstuck LeGrand Solitaire 146 Czar Nikolai I Sterling Vermeil Fountain Pen with a green Malachite gemstone cap. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, put back together, and now is in wonderful writing condition.

The cap, barrel, and trim have the Sterling Silver Gold Vermeil Overlay and display most beautifully. The barrel has a "pinstripe" design while the cap displays the gorgeous Malachite gemstone. The Serial number is IM100286, GERMANY, and METAL2 stamped on the side of the clip. The cap banding is stamped with, "MONTBLANC MEISTERSTUCK". The upper area of the barrel is hallmarked with, "925, StØD, 925 Balance Scale, and Bear's Head".

The cap and barrel of this fountain pen are in excellent condition, without any chips, cracks, repairs, dings, or dents, and the cap always attaches securely to the barrel. It features a Vermeil overlay, which shows no signs of gold plate loss or significant scratching, and the ink-view window is crystal clear. The pen has no monograms or personalizations on the cap or barrel, and it measures 5 3/4" in length when capped and 6 3/8" when posted.

I removed the filling system, cleaned the internal components, and greased the piston seal. I also tested the filling mechanism with water and it fills correctly. The Piston Filling System is functioning properly as intended.

The Montblanc NIB is an 18K/750 Bi-Color NIB. The 18K Montblanc NIB likes to write with a very smooth "wet" line. The nib has a medium point measuring roughly .87mm when measured with digital calipers. When creating a writing sample, the NIB writes with a medium to broad/double broad stroke/line. The writing sample provided in the image has the medium stroke measuring at .77mm and the broad/double broad stroke at 1.25mm with medium to firm pressure when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Montblanc Blue Ink.

The original box houses the fountain pen which is in excellent condition.

Obtaining one of these Montblanc 146 Czar Nikolai I fountain pens in today's market can be quite challenging. This writing instrument is in exceptional condition and would easily be graded as Excellent+ to Near Mint. Not only does it look fantastic, but it also writes incredibly well, making it a valuable addition to any writing arsenal collection.
