For your consideration, we are pleased to offer for sale this first-generation circa 1980 Montblanc Noblesse Fountain Pen (Model #1147), finished in 23K gold plate and fitted with a desirable 585 (14K) Medium nib. This exceptional example remains Mint, New Old Stock, and never inked, preserved in its original Montblanc box with accompanying literature—a truly scarce find for the discerning collector.
The pen presents in exceptional condition. The cap and barrel are pristine, free from dents, dings, scratches, or repairs, with the cap seating securely via its original friction fit. The refined fluted pattern, executed in rich 23K gold plate, retains its full luster with no visible wear. The gold-plated clip remains equally well preserved, and just beneath it, the cap is crisply stamped “MONTBLANC GERMANY.” The cap is crowned with a flush inset Montblanc emblem, while the barrel end features the distinctive dished indentation with the Montblanc snowcap cutout—an iconic design element of the Noblesse line. There are no monograms or personal engravings, preserving the pen’s collector-grade integrity.
Notably, the barrel still retains both the original “M” (Medium nib) sticker and the “Made in W. Germany” sticker. The presence of the W. Germany marking would typically suggest production between 1980 and 1991; however, the cap stamp aligns with first-generation Noblesse models (circa 1974–1980). Based on the accompanying paperwork, which carries a 1986/1987 copyright, it is likely this example was produced earlier but remained unsold and later stickered to comply with West Germany marking requirements—an interesting and nuanced detail that adds to the pen’s historical intrigue.
The pen measures approximately 5 1/2 inches capped, 6 1/8 inches posted, and weighs .85 ounces, offering a sleek, well-balanced profile in hand.
It is equipped with its original Montblanc converter, which has been tested with water and functions exactly as intended.
At the heart of the pen is a superb 14K / 585 gold Medium nib. The Medium point measuring approximately .86mm via digital calipers. In keeping with its preserved condition, the pen has never been inked or dipped, ensuring the nib remains in pristine, factory-fresh state.
The presentation is completed by the original Montblanc boxes and literature, all in excellent condition with a clean interior—further enhancing the desirability and completeness of this offering.
As a first-generation Noblesse model, this pen represents an important chapter in Montblanc’s design evolution—combining modernist lines with classic luxury materials. Examples in unused, boxed condition are increasingly difficult to source.
This is a collector-grade Montblanc Noblesse—a refined, elegant, and increasingly rare writing instrument that stands out both for its condition and its distinctive nib. Whether preserved as part of a distinguished collection or enjoyed as a unique daily writer, it is a remarkable example of Montblanc craftsmanship from this era.
