Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Restored 1942 Parker Golden Pearl Celluloid Fountain Pen in the Long Major Size. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, section, breather tube, and barrel. Replaced the old diaphragm with a new, properly sized one. Hand polished the Gold Filled Blue Diamond Clip, Chevron Cap Band ( \\\ ///) and 14K NIB. I have Cleaned, Buffed, Polished and Waxed the barrel and cap to bring back the vibrancy and to protect the celluloid of fountain pen. This Parker Golden Pearl has some fabulous color.

This fountain pen cap and barrel are in magnificent condition showing no chips, cracks or repairs with the cap always secure tightly to the barrel. The cap has the Split Arrow Gold Filled Blue Diamond Clip which displays no brassing. The Chevron Cap Band is also in excellent condition with no brassing - the trim is extremely clean on this Parker Vac. The top jewel is black and polished to bring back a beautiful shine. The barrel is clearly and crisply stamped with, "Geo. S. Parker Vacumatic Made in U.S.A. with date code 2 (1942) in the 4th Quarter". The transparency of the barrel is great and a person can easily see through the barrel with only very mild ambering. The blind cap securely fits. This Parker Vacumatic is a long major size that measures 5 5/16" in length capped and 6 3/16" posted.

This Parker Vacumatic has the 3rd Generation Filling Unit. The Vacumatic Filling System works great, typically in my tests with water about 7-9 presses to fill full. I have greased the filling unit and now operates smoothly and functions as it originally was designed to.

The Parker NIB is a 14K gold two-tone split arrow NIB. The platinum coating has nearly been worn away from the years of overpolishing. The Nib is dated "2" for 1942 which gives this Parker Vac a marriage between the pen and Nib. The iridium is great and creates a wonderful smooth writing experience. The 14K Parker Vacumatic NIB has a medium point measuring roughly .65mm when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample provided in the image ranges from a fine stroke that measures .52mm to a broad stroke of roughly 1.14mm with medium to firm pressure when measuring with digital calipers. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

Vacumatic collecting offers layers and layers to explore. This particular Parker Vacumatic has a variant, slightly different from what came immediately before and after its short run. It's not a cataloged model, just a tweak on the long-running Major size Vacumatic. The double jewel Major size ran from 1937-1941, pens from late 1938-1941 are a bit longer in cap and barrel than what ran just before. The single jewel era ran from 1942-1948 in the USA and most Majors found are the same length as the Junior (presumably to save cost in having different length pens). What some don't know is that the earliest of the 1942 single jewel majors maintained the longer cap and barrel found with the 1939-1941 double jewel fountain pens. The earliest of the Single Jewel Majors (third generation) even had metal filling units still, striped (when appropriate) top jewel and two-tone nib. This Gold Pearl Major has a two-tone nib and 1942 date code. Both cap and barrel are "long". These turn up perhaps 1 per 50 typical single jewel Major - this is the collector variant that I wanted to address for this particular Parker Vacumatic.

This Long Major Parker Vacumatic Fountain Pen, as I previously mentioned, are increasingly difficult to find which make it an excellent collector variant to add to one writing arsenal collection. Has great color, transparency, and great writing Nib. I would grade this Parker Vacumatic in Excellent Condition and is ready to write or just add to your collection.
