Description

For your consideration we are offering for sale this Restored 1945 Parker 51 Single Jewel Fountain Pen & Pencil Set in Dove Gray Plastic. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, ultrasonically cleaned and put back together and is now in wonderful writing condition.

I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, collector, breather tube, hood, barrel, and NIB. Replaced the old diaphragm with a new, properly sized one. Hand polished the Lustraloy Cap, Split Arrow Clip, Clutch Ring, and 14K Parker NIB. Cleaned, Buffed, Polished and Waxed the barrel, blind cap, and hood to bring back the vibrancy of fountain pen and to protect the celluloid. This Parker 51 measures 5 1/2" capped and 6 1/8" posted.

The fountain pen cap, barrel, blind cap and hood are in magnificent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. The Lustraloy Cap displays the word "Parker" on the wide cap band lip. The cap has no denting and no scratches, way below average use considering the age of the cap. The Cap has a pearlized jewel that has been polished to high shine. The barrel is stamped on two lines, "PARKER 51 MADE IN U.S.A. with date code 5 (for 1945) in the fourth quarter". There are no monograms or personalizations to either the cap or barrel. The clutch ring is in amazing condition and retains the center gold plating.

This Parker 51 has the Vacumatic Filling System. I have tested the Vacumatic filling mechanism with water and fills as it should. The filling system, typically in my tests with water, will fill nearly full in roughly 7 to 10 presses. The filling unit operates as it was originally intended to.

The Parker NIB is 14K, writes great, and has a 1945 Date Code which matches the barrel date code. The actual writing portion of the 14K Parker NIB has a fine point measuring roughly .55mm when measured with digital calipers. When writing a sample with this NIB, it writes with a double extra fine to an extra fine line. In the writing sample provided, the fine line measures at .33mm when measuring with digital calipers. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Black Ink.

I am including a matching Parker 51 Pencil as shown in the listing images. It repels the lead as it should. The box is not a Parker 51 presentation case but, it is a Parker box that I will include with the sale of this set.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This vintage Parker 51 Vacumatic Fountain Pen & Pencil set is a gorgeous example from Parker. I would consider this Parker to easily grade in Excellent Condition. It is ready to write or just add it to your writing arsenal collection.

NOTE: There is no blind cap/barrel/hood discoloration - the reflection off the camera body may give the appearance the color is not matching, but I will assure the color is matching across the pen hood, barrel, and blind cap.
