Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Restored 1948 Parker 51 Double Jewel Fountain Pen in the Cordovan Color with a 1/8 14K Gold Filled Converging Cluster Lines Cap. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, ultrasonically cleaned, put back together, and is now in superb writing condition.

I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, collector, breather tube, hood, and barrel. I have replaced the old diaphragm with a new, properly sized one. Hand polished the 1/8 14K Gold Filled Cap & Gold Filled Arrow Blue Diamond Clip, Clutch Ring, Blind Cap Tassel, and 14K Parker NIB. I have cleaned, buffed, and polished the barrel, blind cap, and hood to bring back the vibrancy and protect the plastic of the fountain pen. This Parker 51 measures 5 1/2" capped and 6 1/8" posted.

The fountain pen cap, barrel, blind cap, and hood are in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. The cap is clearly stamped with, "1/8 14K GOLD FILLED MADE IN U.S.A.". This converging cluster line cap is in excellent condition with no dings, dents, or repairs with the gold cap polished to shine brightly. The Blind Cap and Cap have plastic pearlized jewels that have been polished to a high shine. The barrel is clearly stamped on two lines, "PARKER 51 MADE IN U.S.A. with date code 8, for 1948, in the 4th quarter". There are no monograms or personalizations to either the cap or the barrel.

I have tested the Vacumatic filling mechanism with water and fills as it should. The filling system, typically in my tests with water, will fill nearly full in roughly 7 to 10 presses. The filling unit operates as it was originally intended to and smoothly.

The actual writing portion of the 14K Parker NIB has a medium point measuring roughly .72mm when measured with digital calipers. When writing a sample with this NIB, it writes with a fine to medium line. In the writing sample provided, the fine line measures .54mm on the upward/downward strokes to a medium line measuring .73mm on the horizontal strokes when measuring with digital calipers. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Montblanc Black Ink.

This vintage Parker 51 Vacumatic Double Jewel Fountain Pen is clearly in magnificent condition. I would consider this Parker to grade in Excellent to Excellent+ Condition. It is ready to write or just add it to your writing arsenal collection.
