Description

For your consideration we are offering for sale this Lovely Restored Circa 1937 - OVERSIZE 1st Generation Parker Double Jewel Burgundy Pearl Celluloid Fountain Pen. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition. The Largest pen from the 1st Generation, the Oversize has maximum dimensions similar to the later Senior Maxima, but its chunkier contour renders it of larger look and feel. Gripping section is larger than is found in the Senior Maxima. This one is very clean. No brassing, nice color and decent clarity (reddish-orange clarity).

I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, section, breather tube, cap and barrel. Replaced the old diaphragm with a new, properly sized one. Hand polished the Feather Gold Filled Split Arrow Clip, 3-Ring Cap Banding, 14K U.S.A. Parker NIB and bottom tassel. Cleaned, Buffed, Polished and Waxed the barrel and cap to bring back the vibrancy of fountain pen and to protect the celluloid. This Parker Vacumatic is an Oversize which measures 5 3/8" capped and 6 1/4" posted.

This fountain pen cap and barrel are in magnificent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. The cap has the Feather Split Arrow Gold Filled Clip with the 3-Ring Cap Banding displaying no brassing. The top and bottom jewels are striped to match the cap, barrel and section of the fountain pen. The section is striped to match the pen's cap, barrel and jewels. The barrel is clearly stamped, but a little faint with, "Geo. S. Parker Vacumatic Made in U.S.A. with date code 1937 in the 2nd Quarter". The blind cap securely fits. I have tested the filling mechanism with water and fills as it should. The Lockdown Vacumatic Filling System works great, typically in my tests with water about 9 to 11 presses to fill full. I have greased the filling unit, so it operates smoothly.

The Parker NIB is dated with the date code 7, for 1937, which matches the barrel and year of this Parker Fountain Pen. The Parker NIB is a 14K 2-tone Gold Split Arrow NIB, which writes extremely smooth! The platinum coating on the NIB is mostly worn away. The actual 14K Parker NIB has a medium point measuring roughly .81mm when measured with digital calipers. When writing a sample with this NIB, it writes with an fine to a broad stroke line. In the writing sample provided, the extra fine line measures at .48mm (with light pressure) and the broad line measures at 1.00mm with firm/medium pressure when measuring with digital calipers. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that is listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue-Black Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This is one of those vintage Parker Vacumatic Fountain Pens you don't always get a chance to secure in your collection in the Burgundy Pearl Celluloid and 1st Generation Oversize. I would consider this Parker to be in Excellent Condition, the color is lovely with all the items a collector looks for; double jewels, striped jewels / sections, 3 ring cap banding with correctly dated NIB and barrel and is it the Big Boy of Vacumatics. It is ready to write or just add it to your writing arsenal collection.
