Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Restored Circa 1923 Parker Senior Duofold "BIG RED" Fountain Pen in Red Hard Rubber. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, put back together, and is now back in writing condition.

The significance of this particular Parker Duofold, for those who do not know, is the material being red hard rubber and having the "large" barrel imprint. In addition, it is an early circa 1922-23 production year fountain pen and is considered one of the "grail" fountain pens for Parker collectors.

The fountain pen cap, barrel, and blind cap are in great condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. The Cap has a gold-filled Parker Clip with PAT SEP 5 - 16 stamped and is polished to shine brightly. The raised single cap band does not display any wear and is polished. The barrel is stamped with the, "Large DUOFOLD imprint along with "GEO. S. PARKER FOUNTAIN PEN JANESVILLE WIS. U.S.A. LUCKY CURVE PAT JAN 03-05. APR. 11-05 APR. 25-12 JUN. 4-12". The imprint is a bit worn but all the nomenclature is there and legible. There are no monograms or personalizations to either the cap or barrel. The cap and barrel display absolutely wonderful color which is very consistent from the cap to the barrel. This Parker Duofold is the Senior Size and measures 5 1/2" capped and 6 1/2" posted.

The Parker NIB is 14K and stamped, "PARKER DUOFOLD PEN". The actual writing portion (iridium tip) of the 14K Parker NIB has a fine point measuring roughly .52mm when measured with digital calipers. When writing a sample with this NIB, it writes with a fine to medium stroke/line. In the writing sample provided, the fine line measures at .51mm, and the medium line measures at .69mm with medium to firm pressure when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Montblanc Blue Ink. The nib is very rigid and you can feel the feedback of the nib when writing.

The feed is a "Christmas Tree" Lucky Curve type. The "lucky curve" is intact and not cut off like so many are.

This Duofold has a Button Filler mechanism and has been restored with a new rubber sac, tested with water, and now fills as it should. The filling unit operates as it was originally intended to and smoothly.

This is Parker Duofold is of simple design, yet, very significant due to the hard rubber material, large imprint, and being the second-year model of the iconic Parker Duofold. I would consider the condition of this Parker Duofold to be in Very Fine to Excellent Condition. It is a spectacular writing collectible and certainly a significant fountain pen that would make for a "holy grail" addition to one's writing arsenal collection.
