For your consideration, we are pleased to offer for sale this 1996 Cross 150th Anniversary Limited Edition Fountain Pen fitted with an 18K gold Medium nib. This fountain pen remains in mint, never-inked condition and is complete with its original box, Cross literature, and accessories.
The Cross 150th Anniversary fountain pen is one of those pieces that shows how Cross understood restraint when most makers were leaning into excess. This is a mid-size pen, deliberately smaller and lighter than the big, heavy Townsend line, and a clear step away from the oversized, highly ornate limited editions that were flooding the market during the 1990s. You’ll notice right away that it has thinner walls on both cap and barrel, which give the pen a surprising lightness for an all-metal construction.
The design is pure Cross: that classic double taper at each end, cleanly capped in black, crisp and deliberate in its proportions. The zigzag machine engraving across the cap and barrel is sharp and vivid. This is the 12K gold-filled model, which is highly polished and gleams in the light. The inlaid triple enamel bands on cap and barrel add just the right punctuation—enough to break up the busy pattern and provide a strong visual frame from a distance, while rewarding a closer look with detail and precision.
The pen’s cap and barrel are in flawless condition, showing no signs of wear, dings, dents, or repairs. The cap and barrel have a mirror-like polish that highlights the design. The cap is always securing tightly to the barrel via threads. This Cross measures 5 1/4 inches in length when capped, extends to 6 1/4 inches when posted, and weighs approximately 1.06 ounces, offering a solid and balanced feel in hand.
The top area of the cap is marked with, "Limited Edition Number 312 of 2750, 150th Anniversary, 1/20th 12K Gold Filled, AxT Made in U.S.A."
Designed for versatility, this fountain pen accepts both ink cartridges and an ink converter. Included with the pen is one ink converter, which has been tested with water and functions exactly as intended.
The 18K solid gold nib is marked as a Medium and bears the 18K/750 gold hallmark. The tipping measures approximately .84mm when using digital calipers. In order to maintain its pristine, never-inked status, I have not used this pen with ink.
This Cross 150th Anniversary Limited Edition Fountain Pen comes housed in its original wooden factory presentation box. All original documentation, ink well, and bottle of ink accompany the fountain pen.
This is a fountain pen that doesn’t shout, but it doesn’t have to. For the collector, it’s a reminder that Cross, even in celebrating its 150th year, chose elegance and tradition over sheer size or gimmickry. That choice makes it one of the more thoughtful and enduring anniversary editions in the Cross line. This one is Mint, never inked, and comes in the original box with all the accessories and documentation.
* This Cross 150th Anniversary originally sold for $1000 in 1996.
