Description

For your consideration, we are pleased to offer for sale this 2001 Aurora Optima Ultima Lira Limited Edition Fountain Pen, fitted with an 18K gold Medium nib. This pen remains in Mint, never-inked condition and is complete with its original presentation boxes, Aurora literature, and the matching Ultima Lira full-sized ink bottle.

In 2001, as Italy transitioned to the Euro and retired the beloved Lira, Aurora marked the occasion with this special commemorative edition. Crafted using the classic Optima model, the pen features a fluted sterling silver cap topped with a striking 18K gold Lira coin. The coin bears the cornucopia design first introduced in 1951, a timeless emblem of abundance and prosperity. On the Lira, there is a small diamond, and inside the diamond is stamped “750,” confirming the 18K gold plate content.

This particular fountain pen is Limited Edition number Z755 out of only 975 produced worldwide. The cap and barrel are in pristine condition, showing no cracks, nicks, dings, dents, scratches, or signs of wear. The cap threads securely to the barrel, and the piston-filling system operates smoothly, having been water-tested to ensure full functionality.

The pen measures approximately 4 7/8 inches when capped and extends to 6 inches when posted. The barrel is clearly imprinted with the Aurora name, while the cap is adorned with a wide gold-plated band engraved “AURORA” beneath the clip. A clear ink window near the grip section allows for easy monitoring of ink levels.

The 18K gold nib is stamped "750 Aurora" and has a Medium point, measuring approximately .80mm with digital calipers. It has never been inked and has been preserved in its original state for the next owner.

This Aurora Optima Ultima Lira Fountain Pen, complete with its original packaging, Aurora Limited Edition Ultima Lira branded ink bottle, and accompanying literature, it is a superb example of Italian craftsmanship. A fitting tribute to a historic monetary transition, this pen is both a collector’s item and a beautifully made writing instrument—an exceptional addition to any fine writing collection.
