For your consideration, we are honored to present for sale this extraordinary 2001 Sailor CP1 Nagahara Fountain Pen, Limited Edition No. 81 of only 100 produced, crafted in the stunning Pearlized Celadon Green, Vermillion, and Ebony marbled acrylic. This exceptional pen is fitted with the legendary and exceedingly rare 21K solid gold Naginata Cross Point Emperor nib. The pen has never been inked and remains in true Mint condition, preserved exactly as issued.
The Sailor CP1 Pacific is based on the classic Sailor 80 platform and marks the very beginning of the celebrated Classic Pens “Nagahara” collaboration series. Produced jointly by Classic Pens, Murelli, and Sailor, the CP1 was officially released as a Sailor Limited Edition in 2001. Only two nib configurations were offered for this inaugural series: the Naginata Cross Point Emperor nib and the Naginata Togi nib, both designed by one of the most revered figures in fountain pen history.
This series was named in tribute to Mr. Nobuyoshi Nagahara, Sailor’s legendary master nib craftsman. Joining Sailor in 1946 at the age of just 14, Nagahara devoted his lifetime to perfecting nib performance, ultimately creating some of the most technically advanced and expressive writing instruments ever produced. His most iconic achievements—the Naginata Cross Point Emperor and Naginata Togi nibs—are widely regarded as the pinnacle of modern nib design.
The cap and barrel showcase the richly marbled Pearlized Celadon Green, Vermillion, and Ebony acrylic, a striking and sophisticated color palette that is beautifully complemented by a 23K gold electroplated clip and cap banding. The wide cap band is crisply engraved “SAILOR – CP1 – NAGAHARA”, along with the individual limited-edition number 081/100. The cap threads smoothly and securely onto the barrel, and the pen presents in flawless condition, free of any dents, dings, cracks, or wear. The pen measures 5 5/8 inches capped, 6 1/4 inches posted, and weighs a well-balanced 1.08 ounces, offering both visual presence and excellent ergonomics.
The pen utilizes Sailor’s converter/cartridge filling system, providing versatility for either bottled ink or Sailor cartridges. The converter has been water-tested and functions perfectly, though the pen itself has never been inked.
At the heart of this remarkable instrument is the extraordinarily rare 21K solid gold Naginata Cross Point Emperor nib—a nib seldom encountered and highly coveted among serious collectors. The nib is marked with the 1911 Sailor anchor logo, 21K, Sailor, and the NAG designation for Naginata. Its complex construction features a traditional vertical slit from tipping to breather hole, paired with a distinctive horizontal slit across the iridium tipping, along with the characteristic gold bar above the nib. This advanced design allows for exceptional ink flow and smoothness. The tipping measures approximately 1.33 mm, and consistent with its never-inked status, the nib remains immaculate and untouched, preserved exclusively for the next collector.
The pen is accompanied by a complete original presentation set, including the Classic Pens / Sailor inner and outer boxes, original literature, letter to the original owner (name blacked out), and the official Limited Edition certificate, making this an exceptionally complete and desirable offering.
The Sailor CP1 Nagahara Limited Edition with the Naginata Cross Point Emperor nib represents one of the most important modern collaborations in fountain pen history. Demand for this model was so intense that the edition reportedly sold out before its official public release, rendering it virtually unobtainable today—particularly in mint, never-inked condition.
An icon of modern nib artistry and a cornerstone piece for any serious Sailor or Classic Pens collection, this CP1 Nagahara is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to acquire one of the rarest and most celebrated fountain pens ever produced.
