For your consideration, we are pleased to offer for sale this exceptional circa 1990s Montblanc No. 144 Solitaire Classique Meisterstück Fountain Pen, finished in the elegant lined sterling silver overlay (Godron pattern) and paired with its matching Montblanc Sterling & Crystal Desk Base. Fitted with an 18K Medium nib, this refined set presents in Excellent+ to Near Mint condition, a rare and highly desirable combination for the discerning collector.
This example can be dated to the circa 1992–1999 period, identifiable by the “Germany” stamp on the clip ring (as opposed to the earlier “W. Germany” marking), placing it within a sought-after era of Montblanc’s sterling Solitaire production.
The fountain pen itself is beautifully preserved. The cap and barrel are immaculate, free from dents, dings, cracks, or repairs, with the cap securing firmly via its original friction fit. The sterling silver lined pattern—a series of finely engraved vertical lines—exhibits a crisp, luminous finish, recently cleaned and polished to restore its original brilliance without compromising detail. The gold-filled clip and cap bands remain bright and free from wear, complementing the silver body with classic Montblanc contrast. The cap band is engraved “MONTBLANC MEISTERSTÜCK,” while just above it, the correct “Ag 925” and “StØD” hallmarks confirm the sterling silver construction. The cap clip ring is stamped with "Serial Number KP1083328 GERMANY & Metal2." Importantly, there are no monograms or personal engravings, preserving the pen’s collector integrity.
The pen measures approximately 5 3/8 inches capped, 6 1/8 inches posted, and weighs 1.04 ounces, offering the perfectly balanced proportions that define the 144 Classique.
It is equipped with a Montblanc converter filling system, which appears unused and operates exactly as intended.
At the heart of the pen is a finely crafted 14K / 585 gold nib, delivering a smooth and expressive writing experience. The nib is graded Medium, with tipping measuring approximately 0.86mm, providing a generous, well-balanced line characteristic of Montblanc’s classic nib design.
Accompanying the pen is the Montblanc Solitaire Sterling & Crystal Desk Base, an elegant and rarely encountered accessory. The base features a combination of crystal and Sterling with a sterling silver socket accented with 23.5K gold plated accents, fully hallmarked “925 / StØD” and engraved “MONTBLANC MEISTERSTÜCK.” Additional markings on the sterling elements of the base read “Montblanc Germany 925 / StØD.” The iconic Montblanc snowcap emblem is elegantly engraved into the top surface, completing the presentation. The desk base measures approximately 3" x 3" x 3 3/8" at its highest point and remains in excellent condition, with no damage to the crystal and no dents or imperfections to the sterling components.
Sets combining the Solitaire 144 Sterling fountain pen with its desk base are exceptionally difficult to source in today’s market, particularly in this level of preservation. This offering represents a sophisticated, collector-grade ensemble—a perfect marriage of Montblanc’s timeless design, precious materials, and functional elegance.
Whether displayed as a statement desk piece or enjoyed as a refined writing instrument, this is a rare opportunity to acquire a complete and beautifully preserved example from one of Montblanc’s most iconic sterling silver lines.
