For your consideration, we are pleased to offer for sale this striking Circa 2008 Loiminchay “Patrick Babe” Limited Edition Fountain Pen fitted with an 18K Medium nib, a bold and highly unconventional design limited to just 1,888 pieces worldwide. Crafted in Italy in the mid-2000s, this model represents one of Loiminchay’s more avant-garde creations—where modern industrial design meets fine writing instrument craftsmanship. This fountain pen has never been inked and I consider it in Mint, Never Inked Condition.
At first glance, the design immediately sets itself apart. The pen features a dramatic black body accented by a vivid red inlay, creating a sharp, architectural contrast that feels both modern and aggressive in its styling. The lines are clean, deliberate, and slightly futuristic—often described as drawing inspiration from the form of an “old spaceship,” giving the piece a mechanical, almost conceptual presence in hand.
One of the most intriguing design elements is the hidden clip deployment system. Rather than a traditional exposed clip, the mechanism is activated by a discreet button opposite side of the clip on the backside of the cap—an unexpected and highly engaging feature that speaks to the pen’s technical ingenuity and design-forward philosophy.
Constructed from a combination of resin, celluloid, and metal, the pen offers both visual depth and structural substance. The form is substantial without being cumbersome, measuring approximately 5 1/2 inches in length with a 1/2 think somewhat flat body, and it is designed as a non-posting pen to preserve its balanced, sculptural proportions.
This fountain pen displays no chips, cracks, repairs, or wear. The condition is perfect. These pens are described as being made in Italy, but nibs are sourced from Germany and sometimes Japan.
The filling system is a cartridge/converter configuration, offering modern practicality. Access to the converter is uniquely engineered—the section pulls straight from the barrel rather than unscrewing, reinforcing the pen’s unconventional, engineered feel.
Fitted with a two-tone 18K (750) gold nib in Medium. The nib is marked "750M" for an 18K Medium Nib, on the right shoulder of the nib. These Loiminchay nibs are known for there very smooth, controlled writing experience consistent with high-end European production. I have not inked the pen, but when I dry write with the pen I can feel the soft smooth feedback on paper when holding the pen.
Equally noteworthy is the pen’s limited production of just 1,888 pieces, with individual numbering discreetly engraved—this is limited edition number 99 of 1899. Originally retailing at a significantly higher price point ($2,500 MSRP), the Patrick Babe has remained a somewhat under-the-radar writing instrument, appreciated most by collectors who favor distinctive design over convention.
The grip section itself is subtly faceted rather than fully round, offering a unique tactile experience in hand—further reinforcing the pen’s departure from traditional design norms.
The Loiminchay Patrick Babe is not a pen that blends in—it was never meant to. It is a statement piece, a conversation starter, and a design object as much as it is a writing instrument. For the collector seeking something outside the ordinary—something mechanical, modern, and unmistakably different—this is a compelling addition.
A rare opportunity to acquire one of Loiminchay’s most distinctive limited editions—where engineering, design, and individuality converge.
