Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Never Inked Limited Edition Montblanc Thomas Mann Fountain Pen from the 2009 Writer's Series. This particular pen is limited edition number 8046 out of 12000. This pen comes with the original boxes, Montblanc Literature, and the original medium nib sticker affixed to the blind cap. This fountain pen has never been inked, is considered New Old Stock, and is in Mint Condition fitted with an 18K Medium nib.

The 2009 Montblanc Writers Edition is dedicated to Thomas Mann, the celebrated German writer known for literary masterpieces such as Buddenbrooks and Death in Venice. Mann was an opponent of National Socialism and went into exile in Switzerland and the USA before returning to Europe in 1952 where he died in Zurich in 1955. At the age of 26, Mann completed his family saga Buddenbrooks in 1901. The novel, which has been translated into more than 40 languages, brought Thomas Mann the 1929 Nobel Prize for Literature.

Montblanc's Writers Edition pays tribute to the unique artist Thomas Mann. The black lacquer writing instruments are adorned with platinum-plated inlays inspired by the art deco era, and the rhodium-plated 18K gold nib features delicate engraving of the Buddenbrooks house, Mann's birthplace, which is now the home of the Thomas Mann Museum. An onyx-colored zircon is set above the teardrop on the clip.

The cap and barrel are in perfect condition with no cracks, nicks, scratches, or repairs. The cap is always securing tightly to the barrel. The fountain pen measures 5 1/2" capped and 6 3/8" posted. The clip banding around the top of the cap is stamped with the limited edition number 08046/12000 and serial number PT1152430, as shown in image 7.

This Montblanc Writer's Series Thomas Mann Fountain Pen comes with the original boxes and literature you see in the images, which all are in perfect condition.

This Montblanc fountain pen uses a piston filling system that I have tested with water and works as it was designed to. I have taken apart the piston to grease it along with cleaning the inside of the barrel. The piston works as it should and smoothly. Additionally, when removing the piston from the pen, there were never any traces of ink. This is how I have concluded the fountain pen has never been inked.

This pen has an 18-karat rhodium-plated gold nib that features a delicate engraving of the Buddenbrooks house, Mann's birthplace, which is now the home of the Thomas Mann Museum. The nib is stamped with "4810, 18K/750, Montblanc, 2009". The Montblanc NIB's writing portion (iridium) measures roughly .86mm when measured with digital calipers.  This nib is designated as a Medium which matches the Medium nib sticker adhered to the pen. I never inked the pen to keep it in New Old Stock, Mint, Never Inked Condition.

These Thomas Mann Limited Edition Writer's Series Fountain Pens, for whatever reason, are tough to find. This one is in Mint, Never Inked condition. It is classy with Art Deco look/feel that makes it such a great addition to one's Montblanc Writer's Series arsenal collection. Guaranteed an original Montblanc writing instrument.
