Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Rare 2009 Pelikan M1000 Renjishi Maki-e Limited Edition 48 of 88 Fountain Pen fitted with an 18K Medium Nib. This fountain pen has never seen ink and comes with the original Pelikan Limited Edition literature and packing, original inner. and outer boxes. I consider this Pelikan M1000 Renjishi in New Old Stock, Never Inked, Mint Condition - it is a pristine example!

NOTE: Kabuki is a traditional Japanese form of theatre. Its origin is said to be from a series of performances by Izumono Okuni in Kitano Tenmangu in 1603 (the beginning of the Edo era). These performances became very popular in Kyoto, and for the last four hundred years have been established as a point of Japanese pride for traditional art. More recently, Kabuki has become popular abroad as well.

The tale of Renjishi was written by Mokuami Kawatake based upon the moral story in which a parent pushes his children down into the bottomless valley with the intention of raising only those who are able to run back up from the valley. This story is regarded as the representative piece of Kabuki dancing, and truly touches the audience’s heart as it is performed by a real parent and son. The climax of this performance is painted on the Pelikan fountain pen “Renjishi”, where the white-haired parent and the red-haired child dance together wildly as a perfect match.

This Pelikan is in absolutely pristine condition! There are absolutely no nicks, chips, cracks, or repairs to this fountain pen. The cap banding is stamped on the cap lip with, "PELIKAN SOUVERAN GERMANY". The cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. There are no monograms or personalizations to either the cap or barrel. The top of the shows the "One Chick" cap logo. The back side of the cap has the limited edition number, "48/88". The lower end of the barrel has the artist's signature drawn in my hand. This Pelikan M1000 measures 5 3/4" inches in length capped and 7 1/8" inches posted.

The Piston Filler works with such ease in my tests with water. The piston filler works flawlessly and operates smoothly every time! The filling system has never seen ink!

The NIB is an 18C/750 two-tone type with a medium point. The actual fountain pen tipping/iridium measures .84mm when measured using digital calipers. This pen was never inked nor did I ink it only to keep it in New Old Stock condition for the new collector.

The Pelikan M1000 Renjishi Limited Edition Fountain Pen is a true spectacle of Japanese Maki-e artistry! This Limited Edition is particularly scarce and commands only the most discerning collectors. Made in Germany and the maki-e Artistry in Japan, this Pelikan is ready to write with or just add it to your writing arsenal collection - a magnificent example.
