Description

For your consideration we are offering for sale this Beautifully Restored 1940 Parker Double Jewel Golden Pearl Celluloid Fountain Pen with Jeweler's Cap Band. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, section, breather tube, cap and barrel. Replaced the old diaphragm with a new, properly sized one. Hand polished the Blue Diamond Gold Filled Split Arrow Clip, Wide Coin Stack Jeweler's Band, 14K Parker U.S.A. NIB and bottom tassel. Cleaned, Buffed, Polished and Waxed the barrel and cap to bring back the vibrancy of fountain pen and to protect the celluloid. This Parker Vacumatic is a major which measures 5 1/8" in length capped and 6" posted.

This fountain pen cap and barrel are in magnificent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. The cap has the Blue Diamond Split Arrow gold filled clip and the jeweler's cap band displays a cartouche with a rich gold filled color with no brassing. The top & bottom jewels are black and have been polished to a glorious shine. The barrel is clearly and crisply stamped with, "Geo. S. Parker Vacumatic Made in U.S.A. with date code 0 in the first quarter". There is no monogram or personalization to the barrel. The transparency of the barrel is very good and a person can easily see through the barrel, albeit with mild ambering. The blind cap securely fits. The Speedline Vacumatic Filling System works great, typically in my tests with water about 6 to 8 presses to fill full.

The Parker NIB is a 14K Gold Split Arrow NIB, which has a smooth writing experience. The 14K Parker NIB has a fine point measuring roughly .51mm when measured with digital calipers. When writing a sample with this NIB, it writes with an extra fine line to a double broad stroke line. In the writing sample provided, the extra fine line measures at .42mm and the double broad line measures at 1.23mm when measuring with digital calipers. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that is listed for sale. I have tested the filling mechanism with water and fills as it should. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue-Black Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

The so-called Jeweler's cap-band Vacs are relatively uncommon variants produced from 1939-1941. Factory original, the key finding is an extra-wide lined cap band. This one is the 2nd size pen with same contour used for the Major and Slender Maxima of that era, though all pens found with this cap-band have Major nib. This pen and the 1st Size pen (Senior Maxima) to share the larger of the two Jeweler's Band forms found in this variant cluster. The cap-band has a cartouche that displays the initials "R.L.P." engraved.

Overall, this is a beautiful vintage Parker Vacumatic Fountain Pen in the Golden Pearl Celluloid that is a difficult to find variant in Excellent Condition - I would consider it close to near mint if the initials were not engraved on the Jeweler's Cap Banding. It is ready to write or just add it to your writing arsenal collection.
