Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this very rare Circa 1998 Tibaldi Impero Celluloid Fountain Pen fitted with an 18K Medium Nib. This fountain pen comes with the original wooden box and Tibaldi Impero Booklet/Literature. I have dipped the fountain pen to provide a writing sample and the pen is what I consider to be in Mint condition and functions perfectly.

This writing instrument is the very rare Impero celluloid Tibaldi Fountain Pen. The pen has a 12-sided/faceted design. The cap and barrel are in perfect condition with no cracks, nicks, scratches, or repairs. The cap is always securing tightly to the barrel. The 18K white gold 3-ring cap bands are securely in place and polished brightly. The "tie-shaped" clip is hot minted brass plated to a thickness of 3 microns and displays no wear. This fountain pen measures 5 5/8" capped and 6 3/4" posted.

The Tibaldi Impero celluloid Limited Edtion Fountain Pen had a production of just 600 pens, individually numbered and ordered into two series of 300 pens. Each piece is marked with its number from 1 to 300 - preceded by the letter "I" for the Italian Market and the letter "E" for Foreign markets. This particular Limited Edition number is E022 and is stamped just above the threading on the barrel and just above the limited edition number is the "TIBALDI" imprint on the barrel.

The Tibaldi Impero comes fitted with an 18K/750 medium nib. I dipped the nib in Montblanc Black ink to perform a writing sample that you see in the images. The nib is designated a medium and stamped, "M" on the shoulder of the right tine area. The iridium tipping measures .76mm when measured with a digital caliper. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The nib will range from a fine/medium (.58mm) to a broad (1.02mm) line variation when measuring with digital calipers.

This Tibaldi Impero fountain pen uses a piston filling system and I have tested it with water and works as it was designed to.

The fountain pen comes with the original polished Maple wooden box. The Tibaldi Impero documentation/booklet also accompanies the box and pen. There is a slot for a bottle of ink in the pullout drawer but no ink bottle.

The Tibaldo Impero is very desirable due to the celluloid design - the gray and black marbling with the electric blue veining. I would condition this Tibaldi Impero Limited Edtion Fountain Pen to grade in Near Mint+ to Mint Condition. This Tibaldi Impero would be one of the highlighted fountain pens in one's writing arsenal collection and a rare example that most never will have a chance to own.
