Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this 2007 Namiki Maki-e Pine Tree Bonsai Fountain Pen from the Nippon Art Collection fitted with a 14K Fine nib. This fountain pen has been gently used and internally cleaned. This fountain pen has been well cared for and is in Near Mint Condition.

The Namiki Nippon Art Collection uses the "Hira Maki-e" technique. This is a process where the main design, which has been coated with lacquer, is decorated with sprinkled gold and silver powders. After that, several additional layers of lacquer are applied. Once the lacquer has hardened, it is burnished. The process of applying the lacquer finish takes at least three months to complete. The pen comes in a rich deep Lacquer Black color and is adorned with just the slightest bit of gold trim, keeping it sleek and streamlined.

The fountain pen features a 14K/585 nib tuned by the masters at Namiki, assuring long-lasting, impeccable writing performance. The Namiki logo can be seen on the clip as well as on the nib, which also depicts an image of Mt. Fuji. The iridium tipping measures at .45mm when measured with digital calipers or a "Fine" point. The nib will range from an extra fine (.37mm) to a medium (.85mm) line variation when measuring with digital calipers.

Urushi, the Lacquer Black material that forms the surface of this pen, is made from the sap from the Japanese lacquer tree. The process of collecting the Urushi (sap) and applying many layers of lacquer to this fountain pen takes three months or longer to complete. This technique, though painstaking, gives this fountain pen its deep lustrous sheen and has been used by Namiki craftsmen since the company's inception back in 1918.

This Namiki Fountain Pen measures 5 5/8" in length capped. The diameter of the barrel is .49" inches. Weighs .73 ounces. It comes with a Con-70 Pilot Ink Converter that works as it should in my tests with water. The nib date code on the nib is a1007 which was made in October 2007 on production line A at the Hiratsuka factory. The barrel is artist signed in Japanese characters that translate to "Kokkokai".

The Namiki Nippon Art Collection Pine Tree Bonsai Fountain Pen displays exquisite craftsmanship in this line of hand-finished fountain pens. The natural Urushi lacquer and handpainted Pine Tree Bonsais provide a stunning finish along with some of the best made 14K Gold Nibs in the World today! These fountain pens are "Works of Art" and the hand-painted artistry proves it. This is a spectacular Namiki to add to your writing arsenal collection. These were $800 new and this design is no longer being produced in the Nippon Art Collection..
