Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Namiki Yukari Royale Maki-e Fountain Pen fitted with an 18K Medium nib in the colorful - "Parrot with Peach" scene. This fountain pen has never been inked and comes in the original box with all the Namiki documentation, Artist Masaru Hayashi card, Namiki Blue Ink Bottle, and one ink cartridge. I consider this Yukari Royale Fountain Pen to be in Mint, Never Inked Condition.

NOTE: Namiki's Yukari Royale Collection features elegant designs on a large ebonite body with #20 - 18k gold nibs - this nib is designated a Broad. The motifs are created through the highly advanced Togidashi-Taka Maki-e technique (Burnished-Raised Maki-e). First, Togidashi Maki-e (Burnished Maki-e) is used; the background and scenery are painted with lacquer, which is then sprinkled with gold powder and sealed with Urushi lacquer. After drying, the surface is lightly burnished with charcoal, revealing the design underneath. Then, the main design is further rendered through additional use of materials like lacquer and charcoal powder. Finally, Hira-Maki-e (Flat Maki-e) is used to create the last details with layers of metal powder and lacquer. (The Namiki website provides steps that go into this process here.)

This fountain pen by Namiki in the Yukari Royale size displays a colorful parrot nestled among peach branches. The parrot's feathers are beautifully detailed with delicate gold lines, and the peaches seem to glow with a dusting of fine gold powder. Namiki Yukari Royale - Parrot with Peach was made by master maki-e artist Masaru Hayashi and the artist card accompanies the pen. The Namiki logo and the NAMIKI name can be seen on the clip - it is very difficult to see due to the gold dust and urushi lacquer on that area.

The fountain pen features a wonderful 18K/750 nib tuned by the masters at Namiki, assuring long lasting, impeccable writing performance. The date code on the side of the nib reads, "1209" - so a December 2009 timeframe of when the fountain pen was produced. The nib iridium tipping measures at .98mm when measured with digital calipers - or a Broad nib point. I have never inked the pen as I wanted to keep the pen in Mint Condition. Namiki nibs are some of the best made 18K Gold Nibs in the World.

This Namiki Yukari Royale Fountain Pen measures 6" in length capped. The diameter of the barrel is .56" inches. Weighs 1.64 ounces.

The fountain pen comes in a nice softwood presentation box, and includes a Con-70 converter, bottle of ink, and ink cartridge to get you started writing with this gorgeous work of art.

The process of hand-crafting these fountain pens takes three months or longer to complete. This technique, though painstaking, gives this fountain pen its deep lustrous sheen and has been used by Namiki craftsmen since the company's inception back in 1918.

The Namiki Yukari Royale Parrot with Peach Fountain Pen example is an exquisite display of artist and craftsmanship. I would consider this Namiki to grade in Mint, Never Inked Condition. This is a very special, high-cachet fountain pen that ready to write or just add it to your writing arsenal collection.

Excellent Seervice. Fantastic to work with.

Very patient in answering my questions and offering alternatives. I am thrilled with the pen, and it arrived as promised. It is not my first transaction with Antique Digger, and certainly not the last.
