Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Never Inked Circa 2000 Namiki Yukari Maki-e Fountain Pen fitted with an 18K Medium nib in the scarce "White Tiger" scene. This fountain pen has never been inked and comes in the original wooden box with the Namiki Limited Edition certificate and booklet. The fountain pen has never been inked and I consider it in Mint condition!

NOTE: Namiki's Yukari Collection features elegant designs on a brass body with #10 - 18k gold nibs - this nib is designated a Medium. The motifs are created through the highly advanced Togidashi-Taka Maki-e technique (Burnished-Raised Maki-e). First, Togidashi Maki-e (Burnished Maki-e) is used; the background and scenery are painted with lacquer, which is then sprinkled with gold powder and sealed with Urushi lacquer. After drying, the surface is lightly burnished with charcoal, revealing the design underneath. Then, the main design is further rendered through additional use of materials like lacquer and charcoal powder. Finally, Hira-Maki-e (Flat Maki-e) is used to create the last details with layers of metal powder and lacquer. (The Namiki website provides steps that go into this process here.)

This is one of Namiki's most coveted maki-e pens of the modern era. Namiki's White Tiger of Asia depicts a crouching white tiger against bright red bamboo. It is handcrafted in powdered gold and vibrant colors using a combination of togidashi-maki-e and hira-maki-e techniques. This particular pen is a Limited Edition: 195 of 300. This was Namiki's first limited edition in the Yukari line of fountain pens.

This fountain pen by Namiki in the Yukari size and displays a crouching White Tiger against bright red Bamboo. I have "stitched" the tiger images together so you can see the entire tiger. The Namiki logo and the NAMIKI name can be seen on the gold-plated clip - on top of the clip is the limited edition number 195/300. The Artist's signature is Kyusai Yoshida.

The fountain pen features a wonderful 18K/750 medium nib tuned by the masters at Namiki, assuring long-lasting, impeccable writing performance. The date code on the side of the nib reads, "A1100" - a November 2000 date code. The nib iridium tipping measures at .84mm when measured with digital calipers - or a Medium nib point. I have never inked the pen as I wanted to keep the pen in Mint Condition. Namiki nibs are some of the best made 18K Gold Nibs in the World.

This Namiki Yukari Fountain Pen measures 5 5/8" in length capped. The diameter of the cap lip, the widest diameter on the pen, is 13.82mm. The pen weighs 1.15 ounces.

The fountain pen comes in a wooden presentation box, a Namiki converter, and the Namiki White Tiger of Asia documentation.

The process of hand-crafting these fountain pens takes three months or longer to complete. This technique, though painstaking, gives this fountain pen its deep lustrous sheen and has been used by Namiki craftsmen since the company's inception back in 1918.

The Namiki Yukari White Tiger of Asia Fountain Pen is coveted by collectors as it was the first limited edition Namiki produced in it's Yukari line of pens. I would consider this Namiki to grade in Mint, Never Inked Condition. This is a very special, high-cachet fountain pen that is ready to write with or just add it to your writing arsenal collection.
