Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Scarce Restored Circa 1936 Sheaffer Standard Size Balance Fountain Pen in Gray Marbled Celluloid. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition. This celluloid is very scarce in this pattern - even more so than the Rose Glow made by Sheaffer.

I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, section, and barrel. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new silicone sac. Hand polished the Nickel Plated Clip, Cap Banding, and 14K Lifetime NIB. I also cleaned, buffed, polished, and waxed the barrel and cap to bring back the vibrancy and to protect the celluloid of the fountain pen.

This fountain pen cap and barrel are in magnificent condition with no chips, cracks, teeth marks or repairs with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. The cap has the White Dot with Nickel Plated Clip, Cap Banding, and lever - there is some scratching to the clip and lever which could be replated. The barrel is clearly and crisply stamped with, "W.A. Sheaffer Pen Co Fort Madison, Iowa, U.S.A. Pat D-78,795". There are no monograms or personalizations on the cap or barrel. This Sheaffer Balance Fountain Pen is a Standard size that measures 5 3/8" in length capped and 6 1/4" posted.

I have tested the lever filling mechanism with water and fills as it should. The Lever Filling System works excellent, as it was originally intended to.

This Sheaffer has the Lifetime 14K NIB. The actual writing portion, the iridium, of the 14K Sheaffer Lifetime NIB has a fine point measuring roughly .51mm when measured with digital calipers. When creating a writing sample, the NIB writes with a fine stroke/line measuring at .48mm when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This is a fabulous Sheaffer Balance Fountain Pen in the scarce Gray Marble/Pearl Celluloid that would grade in Fine to Very Fine Condition - if the trim would be replated I would grade the pen in Excellent+ condition. Gray Marble/Pearl is the most difficult to find celluloid colors in Sheaffer Balance line and this celluloid displays wonderfully. Certainly, this fountain pen is a fantastic addition to one's fine writing arsenal collection.
