Description

For your consideration we are offering for sale this vintage 1950s Sheaffer Snorkel Demonstrator Fountain Pen. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful operating and writing condition.

I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, section, cap and barrel. Hand polished the Gold Filled Clip, Cap Band and 14K 2-Tone Conical NIB. There is no brassing to any of the gold filled trim areas. I gently buffed and polished the barrel to help remove some of the outside surface scratching.

This fountain pen cap and barrel are is magnificent condition with no chips, cracks, teeth marks or repairs. Has the clear section, barrel and blind cap, which are free from any stress cracks. Has the correct Snorkel Demonstrator cap, not a replacement cap. Cap has the correct blackening on the inner cap. There are no monograms on the barrel. The barrel is stamped with, "W.A. Sheaffer Pen Co., Fort Madison, Iowa U.S.A., Made in U.S.A." This Sheaffer Snorkel measures 5 9/16" in length capped and 6 3/8" posted.

Installed a new silicone, properly sized #14 sac; the o-ring and point seal have been replace with correct reproduction parts. Pen has been disassembled, cleaned and inspected for any defects before reassembling. The snorkel tube moves freely and draws ink as it should. There is a small amount of oxidation on the inside brass inner cap, which you can see in image 6. I would not take the risk in removing the inner cap to clean and polish this area and left as is, which is the only flaw that I can see.

The 14K 2-Tone Conical NIB has a medium point measuring roughly .61mm when measured with digital calipers. In the writing sample provided, this NIB writes with a fine line which measures roughly .53mm when measuring with digital caliper. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that is listed for sale. I have tested the filling mechanism with water and fills as it should. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Black Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This Sheaffer Snorkel Demonstrator model is a very rare and extremely difficult to find in this condition. It is not mint condition, but better than most. It is ready to write or just add to writing arsenal collection. I would consider this a collector grade piece that should be cherished in a deserving collection.
