Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Spectacular and Scarce Restored 1939 Waterman 100 Year Fountain Pen in Excellent to Near Mint Condition. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

In 1939 Waterman began manufacturing the 100 Year fountain pen to the public. The first year fountain pen came with the Cap Clip that went over the top of the cap, which is this type that I have listed. Also, the first year - 100 Year Waterman Fountain Pens were made from Lucite but were changed back to celluloid after 1939.

I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap. Cleaned and polished the outside of the cap and barrel. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new #17 silicone sac. Hand polished the Gold Filled Barrel Banding, Gold Filled Waterman Clip, Gold Filled Ideal Lever Box Assembly along with the Waterman 100 Year Semi-Flex NIB.

This fountain pen is made from lucite in Jet Black. The coloring is an amazing black color with no damage to either the cap or barrel. The back of the cap has the imprint at the center of the barrel that reads, "WATERMAN'S REG. U.S. IDEAL GLOBE LOGO PAT. OFFICE MADE IN U.S.A. HUNDRED YEAR PEN". The barrel has the gold filled banding that is clean and secure to the ribbed barrel. There is no wear or brassing to any of the gold filled trim on this fountain pen.

This Waterman has been preserved handsomely and a spectacular example. The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. There are no monograms on the cap or barrel. There are no cracks, crazing, nicks or repairs to the lucite on this Waterman. This Waterman Hundred Year is a standard size fountain pen that measures 5 3/8" in length capped and 6 1/4" posted.

The lever and box assembly have been cleaned and oiled. It works flawlessly and smoothly. The lever is crisp and clean with no brassing. I have tested the filling mechanism with water and fills wonderfully.

Here is the "fun" part of this fountain pen. The NIB is the 14K Waterman Hundred Year that is semi-flexible and writes so smoothly. When measuring the actual tip of the NIB, it measures at .90mm with digital calipers. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a fine line measuring roughly .57mm with very light pressure and flexes up to a double broad stroke of 1.61mm with normal pressure; I didn't want to overextend the NIB's capabilities. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

Finding a 1st Year Waterman Hundred Year Pen is elusive and finding one in this condition is extremely difficult. This is a Holy Grail Waterman Hundred Year Pen that I would consider the condition to be in Excellent+ to near mint condition. Certainly, this is a collector grade writing instrument.
