Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Restored 1940s Waterman Hundred Year Standard Size Red Transparent Celluloid Fountain Pen. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap. Cleaned and polished the outside of the cap and barrel. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new rubber sac. Hand polished the Gold Filled Clip, Gold Filled Ideal Lever Box Assembly along with the Waterman 100 Year Flexible NIB.

This fountain pen is made from Celluloid in transparent Red color. The coloring is an amazing red color. The back of the cap has the imprint at the center of the barrel that reads, "WATERMAN'S REG. U.S. IDEAL GLOBE LOGO PAT. OFFICE MADE IN U.S.A. HUNDRED YEAR PEN". The cap has the gold filled banding that is clean and secure to the smooth cap. At the end of the clip, there is just a touch of wear. There is a very tiny hairline in the cap lip (see the 8th image) very hard to see and feel but point it out for clarity sake.

This Waterman has been preserved handsomely and a wonderful example. The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. There are no monograms on the cap or barrel. This Waterman Hundred Year is a Standard size fountain pen that measures 5 1/8" in length capped and 6 1/4" posted.

The lever and box assembly have been cleaned and oiled. It works flawlessly and smoothly. The lever is crisp and clean with no brassing. I have tested the filling mechanism with water and fills wonderfully.

The NIB is the 14K Waterman Hundred Year that is flexible. When measuring the actual tip of the NIB, the iridium measures at .82mm with digital calipers. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a medium line measuring roughly .83mm with very light pressure and flexes up to a triple broad stroke of 2.02mm with firm pressure. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This Waterman Hundred Year Pen is what I would consider to be in Very Fine condition in the desirable Red Transparent Celluloid coloring. Certainly, this is a collector grade writing instrument that is ready to write with.
