Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Gorgeous Restored Circa 1927 Waterman #7 Red Ripple Hard Rubber Fountain Pen with Pink Cap Band & NIB. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, put back together, and now is in wonderful writing condition.

Ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil. Cleaned and polished the outside of the cap and barrel. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new, properly sized, #17 silicone sac. Hand polished the 18K Gold Filled Cap Banding, Gold Filled Waterman Ideal Clip-Cap, 18K Gold Filled Ideal Lever Box Assembly along with the Waterman 14K PINK NIB.

This fountain pen is made from hard rubber in the Red Ripple pattern. The coloring is gorgeous displaying a consistent red and black coloring. The Red Ripple pattern matching perfectly (see image #5). The lever is crisp and clean with absolutely no brassing. The Waterman Ideal Clip-Cap displays a touch of wear at the high point on the ball of the clip. I will point something out about the clip on this Waterman, it is secured at a higher point on the cap than normal. There is no damage or cracks to the cap and speculate it was a customer request so the top of the cap wouldn't stand out so high in one's pocket. The gold filled cap banding is starting to show a hint of wear along the very top edge of the banding - overall in very good condition. The barrel has the imprint at the center of the barrel that reads, "WATERMAN'S REG US IDEAL GLOBE PAT OFF FOUNTAIN PEN". The butt end of the fountain pen has a crisp number "7" imprint.

The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. The cap has the PINK banding at the top of the cap and has been replaced. (Note: The top Pink cap banding was originally a "salmon" color - not the pink color as we know it today - other Pink cap bands that look pink are replacements.) There are no monograms or personalizations to either the cap or barrel. There are no cracks, nicks or repairs to the hard rubber. This Waterman #7 measures 5 5/8" in length capped and 7 3/16" posted.

The lever and box assembly have been cleaned and oiled. It works flawlessly and smoothly. The Globe and Ideal imprint on the lever is crisp and clean with no brassing. I have tested the filling mechanism with water and fills wonderfully.

Here is the "fun" part of this fountain pen. The NIB is the ever elusive Waterman PINK Nib. The NIB is in wonderful condition that writes great. When measuring the actual tip of the 14K Pink NIB, it measures at .48mm with digital calipers, a Fine point. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a fine line measuring roughly .53mm with very light pressure on the horizontal strokes and flexes up to 2.00mm with normal pressure; I didn't want to overextend the NIB's capabilities. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue-Black Ink.

This is antique Waterman #7 Fountain Pen is in ready to write condition using the incredible flexible NIB. I would consider the condition of this fountain in excellent condition and certainly a Holy Grail collector grade writing instrument. One of the best writing fountain pens that I have in my collection.
